Hi all,
I was "cleaning" one of my USB memories plenty of portable applications and again I had a problem deciding...
I have 5 portable file explorers, each time I need to use one I load 2 or 3 of them at the same time... always trying to compare... but never found an obvious difference
Of course, for a portable device it is too many apps doing the same in a limited space, so I come here again to ask for help deciding pros and cons on this apps.
The apps in question are:
1. Double Commander
2. Free Commander
3. Ultra Explorer
4. Ultra Mage
5. Xenon
Can you suggest pros and cons of each one and help me take a decision on which should stay and which can be removed?
BTW, except for Xenon (I helped translating it into Spanish but I don't know how to use it... lol) I don't remember where I downloaded the rest of it and how they make it into my USB memory, I suppose I read about it here, google it, download it, and now I don't know which one is better to use...

If you have used them and have not noticed differences then just pick the one you like the best. If you are looking for a specific feature then find their websites and there will most likely be a section describing what it does.
Once you go portable...
I like Xenon.
The only problem I've had with it is it's slowness.
Wish there was a RunLocally= command in the .ini file...
Well I love FreeCommander. I use it every day:)
I prefer to use Xplorer2 (I have the lite version). It works on every Windows system that I have used, works perfectly in WinPE, and there are portable versions available.

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report

It looks like I still have to make a lot of tests in all these apps to take a final decision...

This is just a short report... After more in deep testing in the above mentioned Explorer, I have to say that my final round is Ultra Explorer vs. Free Commander... the rest have been removed because they are not updated or abandoned or unsupported or don't have all the features that this two have (including localization).
ATM, Ultra Explorer loads slower but Free Commander tends to ignore mouse clicks from time to time and needs a restart... I'll continue testing... ; )
(BTW, I'm testing on Windows 7 with both portable and local versions of the programs).

I don't have that problem with free commander but then I am using Win XP and 2000. As for Win 7 Haven't tried it because I don't have time and it has DRM built in like vista Yuck Yuck!
The best one is obviously the one you normally use, or the one you use the most, surely?
I prefer Q-Dir; totally configurable 4 pane file manager that is still being actively updated (one day turn-around last time I reported a bug); portable version available. FW but not OS.
