More detail like log for preview before sync.

I started giving Toucan a try and I'm starting to really like it a lot. The only issue I have right now is that there is no preview of what will happen before you tell the program to do it.

Like I have two drives with MP3s, one being a backup drive, and I want to mirror the music directory from one drive to the backup drive that already has a 4 month old copy. I would like to see a detailed log of what the program is going to do before I just start trusting 200GB of MP3s to this program.

It would be nice to just have a detailed preview log anyways just because it's much easier to read and figure things out before you actually want to sync or mirror.

Can this be done please? Then I will trust large amounts of data to it.

So

you mean as well as the preview button? There has been other requests for a summary window, with the new sync engine this is much more doable, I hope to add it fairly soon Smile

Preview button needs some help

I just downloaded 2.10. I've been using SyncToy for a long time, but I decided to try Toucan. The issue I see with the preview button is that it doesn't show when changes will occur in your folders.

It would be nice if it would highlight folders where changes will occur. Ideally it might even expand those folders so you could see at a glance.

Another thought would be an option to make untouched files disappear so that only modified files will show.

What kind of things would a summary window show?

Unsure

at the moment, I am still working out how best to implement this, I think I will go with the idea of only showing changed files, it should be simple to add, and yet I think it would be just as useful as a summary box.

I agree

I agree, there should be an preview option that informs the user exactly what modifications will occur to certain files/folders. Maybe a checklist-type format could be implemented, so the user can approve/deny certain commands. Essentially, Toucan would be ask for verification before deletion/modification. This would prevent files from mistakenly being deleted or accidentally overwriting a newer files with an older version.
