What is the status of categories? Seems this has been an ongoing request. Is it in 1.6, or if in 2.0, when is it going to come out?

Soon

It's scheduled for 2.0 as of right now after we switched around the version numbers. We're currently working on the visual presentation (whether it will be expanding folders ala Windows Vista's long menu or open into a folder view for just those apps and which is better in terms of usability, accessibility and coding).

For right now, if you have too many apps, you can use the 1.6 Pre-Release in the forum and move your favorite/most-used apps to the top just by right-clicking on them.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Ok, thanks. I'm trying to create an incidence responce thumb so I'm not sure what will be most used. I vote for expanding folders. Smile

Are there going to be any changes that would allow users to reduce the branding at the top and put their own feel in there. Would like to customize that for my own taste. Was testing R34, but would like to stick with the main distro.

Yes and No

There will be custom themes in 1.7 (possibly 1.6 as I'm working on moving it in earlier for a specific hardware partner) that allow you to move things around... we call them "Advanced Themes". You can even use a smaller PA.c logo (normal size, 1/2 size or mini icon) and/or move it somewhere else for tiny themes or similar. We also have an OEM program where OEMs can brand it (for sales, giveaways, etc).

I second this request for expanding folders and customizable themes.

I had played around with all the other portable app launchers out there, and the main distro here is the one i am sticking with. Easy to add an update apps. But being able to group apps together in the main menu using subfolders would be ideal for more organization.

With the popularity of the PA platform, an increasing number of new applications are being released with a frequency weekly and daily at times I've noticed. I am so looking forward to the categories being made available for the PA platform. I'm sure other PA users are as well. The list of applications to scroll through is now quite long. Categories would allow a logical ordering of applications. With a long list of apps, an alphabetical ordering is not particularly useful.

User defined categories please.

Can a category be based on a user folder with custom icons for the windows side as well?

That would be great,

Thanks

Categories in GPW

I don't know if any of you know about this project http://www.gpw-project.org/ - https://sourceforge.net/projects/gpw/files/

Sounds like it is Open Source (GPL) licenced and it has categories division, but without extra icons and user folders.

Though, maybe it has code you could use in writing PortableApps Platform.

Hope it helped.
