Application: Lightscreen
Category: Utilities
Description: Lightscreen allows you to create images of your desktop and even images of just windows alone, so you don't have to go threw the many steps just to save the desktop image.
Very useful tool.

Pre-Release 1 (2009-6-13)
Installer updated to current 0.91.3 installer.
Application Updated.
Notes:
Hay nada notas.
1) The help.html file still shows for Lightscreen 0.5
2) You are using an out of date launcher (1.6.0.0), you should be using 1.6.1.0.
3) This should be a Dev Test not a Pre-release, it's a new version.
4) In your post, you should be following ISO 8061 date format (YYYY-MM-DD) (including leading zeros).
Also - Have you tested it on any OS or anything?
1. Thanks for the list. Not really what i was looking forward to.
2. Okay... (1)
3. That's what i was looking for (2)
4. Didn't know that rule changed. I was told by John i didn't have to go threw the "development" stages anymore.... (3)
5. Umm okay? (4)
6. Yes. My mom's computer and xUbuntu. (5)
7. Could we at least give some more detail? Cause i was more worried about whether i missed reg entries or not than how i titled the date incorrectly.
Na na na, come on!
You wanted to know what I found.
1 - Is a blocker, it doesn't match what you are packaging.
2 - You still didn't update it..
3 - I may be wrong, but is this not a new version with a lot of updates including config updates?
4 - Every little thing matters in testing.
5 - Thank you
Further testing - can be done when you fix what you have now. The launcher contains a lot of fixes. Update it and I'll comb through it more.
1. Help.html files shouldn't have versions anymore, we've move away from that now that it's in appinfo.ini and shown in the menu
2. Each launcher has its own versioning
3. It's a pre-release since it's an update of an existing official app
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for clearing that up John. I will digress and note for the future
Thanks John!
I've updated thé launcher to the current 7-Zip one. I'll get to working on the help file.

TrendMicro [via VirusTotal] 8.950.0.1092 2009.06.12
Reports PAK_Generic.001 Infection
As I don't have TrendMirco I'm not sure how to report it.
Thought you might want to know.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
It's a fault positive.
I don't have that software so idk how to report that either.

Need to add MB to the download/install sizes and thanks for updating = )

Hello
I have installed the pre-release file and all went well.
The program however, has this problem:
If you untick the "File" window in the "General" tab, it will not pick up the screenshots into the clipboard.
Even if the "Copy the screenshot to the clipboard" in the "Advanced" tab is ticked.
I do not want to save any file, I just want to copy them into the clipboard.
Thanks!!!
1) uninstall.exe is in the app directory and it should not be there
2) it cannot find optipng. (May be just a program problem)
May the Shwartz be with you
Putting Optipng.exe in the LightscreenPortable (root) directory allows Lightscreen to find it and enables the "Optimize PNG screenshots" setting in the advanced options tab.
I updated all the fuzzy stuff. Enjoy i guess..

Pre-Release 2 works great here = )

It looks like you just copied and pasted part of the 7-Zip Portable launcher into the LightScreen Portable launcher as it is referencing 7-Zip registry keys and the 7-Zip local reg file from 7zP. I was gonna release this today, but you'll need to fix this before we do.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Yea. I'll get on that. Thanks John. That's what I get for working on it in a hurry.
[EDIT]: We need more people like you. Or else i would have never caught that. Muchas Gracias Señor John!

Dave I don't think Pre Releases get "revised", this would now be Pre Release 3.

I only did it because john was "going to" release it. I didnt see the point of releasing a 3rd.

David, in the future just sticking with pre-releases increments for any new small changes in a package is probably the best route.
Lightscreen is my favorite, least-used app, with KeePass. I don't use them much, but I am glad to have them as when I do need them, well, they do a hell of a job.
My favorite new feature is the Save As bit, where instead of just dropping it in the same folder with the same naming convention every time, it gives you the choice. What I don't dig though is, if you hit cancel, it just changes the program title bar to Failed! for a second. I have a better idea: Have it ask "Are you sure you want to discard this screenshot?" If the user says yes, do like before but change "Failed!" to "Nevermind.". If the user says no, bring back the Save As.
Also, another alternative way to "deal" with the screenshot, besides Save As, could be a feature which sends the picture to ImageShack or some other free image host and returns the direct link to the image. So I could take a screenshot of something and put it right into a forum. That would be pretty killer, eh?
It's nice to see that I picked a nice app then.
Feel free to make your application requests to the developer. I have no way off adding them. I like your ideas though. Very nice.

1.0 does seem a little buggy.
- Optipng.exe has to be in the PortableApps\LightscreenPortable directory to use the "Optimize PNG screenshots" option.
- If you don't save to a file, it won't copy the screenshot to the clipboard either.
- The "area" capture will only capture from my primary monitor, and the "magnify around mouse" option doesn't work properly.
- "Include the cursor in the screenshot" option doesn't work on my system.
- Dual-monitor screen captures only work if I drop from 32 bit to 16 bit color quality, and even then it doesn't seem to always work. To be fair though, the Windows PrintScreen doesn't work on my system either, so at least Lightscreen gives me the option to grab only one monitor, which does work.
I'm running XP Pro, SP2, 3 GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro FX 550 with two monitors at 1680x1050.
Other than possibly the optipng.exe issue, I'm sure that these are all issues I should bring up with the developer.
>- Optipng.exe has to be in the PortableApps\LightscreenPortable directory to use the "Optimize PNG screenshots" option.>
my copy of the program has optipng.exe in:
PortableApps/LightscreenPortable/App/Lightscreen
is that what you mean??
"No one man can terrorize a whole nation unless we are all his accomplices." - Edward R. Murrow
No, it SHOULD work there. That's were it's supposed to go. But when I run the program, the "Optimize PNG" option is grayed out, with "Can't find optipng.exe" shown, or something to that effect.
When I move (or copy) optipng.exe 2 directories up, to
\PortableApps\LightscreenPortable
then it works.
Hello. As http://lightscreen.sourceforge.net/#download shows the final version of Lightscreen 1.0 being available, when will we get it portable? Thanks.
According to what John T. Haller said in the IRC channel, It's just missing a SetOutPath.
"<JohnTHaller> dbdii407: it's just missing a SetOutPath before the exec. I'll add it and release it today."
It'll be all set.
