Pidgin portable crashes when GTK+ theme is not MS-Windows

1) Edit PidginPortable\App\GTK\etc\gtk-2.0\gtkrc, set gtk-theme-name to
anything but MS-Windows, say
gtk-theme-name = "Emacs"

2) (Re)start pidgin

3) Pidgin crashes with message:
"AppName: pidgin-portable.exe AppVer: 2.5.6.0 ModName:
libcairo-2.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0001f5e8"

Does not seem to happen with normal version of pidgin (ie. non-portable)

Any ideas how to fix?

Thanks!

Anyone? Pidgin devs reckon

Anyone?

Pidgin devs reckon it's portable app's fault.

And looks like they're right

And looks like they're right - all works fine when portable version is build according to their instruction http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#RunningWindowsPidginFroma...

Same

We actually build it the same way they detail (even doing the rename to pidgin-portable.exe). The one difference is that we compress it using our AppCompactor. Could you try uncompacting it with the PortableApps.com AppCompactor and pointing it to PidginPortable\App and running it in UNCOMPRESS mode, please? If that fixes your problem, let us know. It may be there there is a theme file that doesn't like being compressed. Most users don't change the theme, so it has probably just gone unnoticed.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
