Does VLC render Quicktime Alternative unnecessary?

Does Quicktime Alternative play files that VLC can't?

Don't think so

VLC support forum for future reference.

But no, I don't think it does. In any case, I have the trailer for the Star Trek prequel in HD .mov (QuickTime) format, and VLC plays it just fine.

Good questions...

But no, I don't think it does.

Wait, you don't think it reders QTA unnecessary, or you don't think QTA plays anything that VLC won't?

Ha ha, I'm pretty sure you mean that VLC will do whatever QTA will do. That is good to know. I came home last month and found that my girlfriend installed nasty QuickTime. At least it wasn't the vile RealPlayer.
