- implemented automatic language switching
- Data\settings became Data\data for the DataCrow data (installer handles upgrade)
- Data\webapp\datacrow\mediaimages became Data\mediaimages (installer handles upgrade)
- Data\webapp will be deleted by the installer
- resisted the temptation to set the style to Windows by default
- strongly recommend that you back up before upgrading; I think I got everything right but you're better safe than sorry.

- 3.7 Development Test 1 (2009-11-08): updated to 3.7
- 3.6 Development Test 1 (2009-11-05): updated to 3.6; size has increased 10MB (installer and installed) since the previous release (some big new dependencies added)
- 3.4.17 Development Test 2 (2009-08-27): moved App\DataCrow\webapp to Data\webapp (installer upgrades path so you should now be safe). Sorry about that.
- 3.4.17 Development Test 1 (2009-08-26): Updated to 3.4.17
- 3.4.12 Development Test 1 (2009-07-25): initial release; launcher is Chris's PortableApps.com Launcher Test 5. Note that no drive letters are updated, don't think it needs it. Testing with files in different spots etc. could be useful so I can work out if it needs anything.
Will post Regshot soon

for a couple of hours didn't come across any problems looks good so far couldn't find anything left behind on xp media centre sp3 with @ without admin rights

I've been having trouble connecting to Amazon for a short time now. I did a local install and worked without issue, and did a fresh install of the portable version and issue recurs. So the problem is specific to the Portable version. Not sure if this is because it needs to by updated to the latest version (Unlikely) or how the portable version has been affected? I know I've accessed Amazon a couple 100 times with Data Crow portable previously. Tested on work and home pc both with XP SP3.

I'm about to update this to 3.4.17.

Much appreicated. I took about 500 of my books of their shelves last night as I decided to go through each one and catalogue them. Then when Data Crow wouldn't work and I was left
Thanks for updating it
EDIT: Just noticed doing the update wiped out all images for my 112 software items and 448 DVDs I guess the images from the database were not isolated into the Data folder. Any chance for another update

I'm really sorry about that... it was something which I should have picked up but didn't - it uses the webapp folder as well as the data folder.
I've released Data Crow Portable 3.4.17 Development Test 2 which fixes that. This update will migrate the images in webapp correctly for those who have not lost them due to a prior update.
Thanks for reporting it though

Though I'd already cleared this with Chris weeks back just realised I never posted for other users. The bug regarding images has been fixed. Thanks Chris

Data Crow 3.6 is out and 3.7 is in beta with major performance improvements. Current portable version of Data Crow doesn't parse info from IMDB and incorrectly parses info from Amazon
Please update.

Here it is guys. Sorry it's late - I had it practically ready except for an issue I wanted to check out with the webapp folder a couple of weeks ago but then I got busy with other things
It also doesn't help that I can never access datacrow.net from here any more - probably an accidentally-too-widely applied IP ban.
Well, here it is now. Enjoy

Much appreciated
EDIT: Successful update on XP SP3 without any database issues. Well done Chris.

News Release:
Faster and leaner! This version delivers an enormous performance boost! The views are now filled instantly which gives Data Crow a huge performance boost. Furthermore has the memory usage been reduced. The reduction in memory usage is most notable on installation with a 1000 or more items.

Seems I jumped the gun a bit there
EDIT: Not sure how important this is but I noticed your website doesn't report how long a download file is. Therefore when downloading files from there the download is reported as downloading XXXMB of unknown. Just thought I'd let you know.

It should be reporting download lengths... might be a MIME issue that's cropped up recently. I'll see if I can fix it up... probably next year.
Edit: I've just checked it... wget gets the size but Firefox doesn't... I'll have to try a HEAD request some time.

Looks like a really great program, just found it and taking it for a test spin. Are you planning on maintaining this once things settle down with PA Launcher and such? I happened to notice on their website that they are up to build 3.8.11

I've got a list of starred items in Google Reader covering releases I need to update at some point. I'm planning on trying to update all my apps next week after this bunch of Uni assignments is finished.
(Horusofoz et al: as for the issue of download size not being reported quite properly from my server, I'm moving hosts to WebFaction over the next week; so far I've got an account :-))

I'm just in the process of updating this to 3.8.14 now (DataCrow has improved a lot, I'm glad to see :-)). I've updated it to the latest PAL build, and put in language switching too. There were a few hitches though;
With both of these I have put custom code in the installer so that they should be moved to their new locations and the not-necessary stuff in webapp deleted, but I strongly recommend that you backup the whole package (though Data should be OK) before updating.
(I just posted this as I don't think I'm going to have time to finish posting this before my next lecture and so I'll try to finish it off after that and the next, viz, within about two and a half hours. Just got a bit more testing and whatnot to do, and making sure language switching works on first run.)

I've release 3.8.14 DT1. See the release notes for the changes. I strongly recommend that you back up before upgrading, just in case something goes wrong with the migration (I think it's fine, but backing up would be wise).

Did an upgrade from 3.8.1. Library successfully migrated without issue. Data Crow also now remembers that it was last used maximised. Regshot below for Winodws 7 Professional x86 (Note: Used CCleaner, CleanAfterMe and DiskCleaner before regshot which I think accounts for the massive "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\009\Counter:xx" and "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib\CurrentLanguage\Counter:xx" strings).
EDIT: For some reason when I include the regshot result in my comment it won't display therefore I've put it on Pastebin.
EDIT: Thanks for the update

Could someone please update this to the newest version?
Thanks,

I'll push this up on my list (I was working on another project) and will see if I can get this out tomorrow morning; if not, next Monday or Tuesday. If still not, remind me as I've probably forgotten.

I will greatly appreciate that. I love this program, and appreciate the work porting it to PA.
Just letting you know you still need to update.
Thanks
Just last night I thought to myself that I'd better get on and release this today... and post a "wrong Monday" comment
I plan on releasing this later today at Uni.

I see there is an updated 3.9.11 I think it is, if it's worth it can we updated this ? More importantly my Amazon does not work, and I noticed it said it retreives information from "an online database like" IMDb, freedb and Amazon to, but my only choices are, Amazon, Discogs and Musicbrainz, so can I add or edit this area or settings and add my own servers or sites ? Amazon is the only one that does not work, (Apparently this is fixed in the new version, but it seems to break with every other update) I would like it to be more like freedb or whatever best buy uses, I do have a couple other things like, it will not enter the Genre I choose, I guess I might post in the forums ? (EDIT): Is it possible we can update this ?, Plus I wonder if someone would be able to have it use CDDB and or Gracenote, or maybe make a place we can add our own sites/urls or scripts ?
I updated this using your launcher as a guide and simply replacing the files with the updated ones, then bundling it with the Pa Installer without stepping on any toes, or would you rather I not. I figured I should ask before I try to be helpful. Peace..

Sorry I didn't respond to your email of the 9th instant; I was intending to release it that same evening along with a couple of PAL releases, but I didn't end up getting any time whatsoever that evening, and haven't had much spare time since, either. I will be releasing an update properly updated to the latest version of PAL once I've released that, but until then, feel free to share your build.

i just didn't want to upset you by posting it unannounced. Be advised, there were extra files in the new package that I included. I also included the recipe plugin. The link is at my Box account. Hope it works out ok.
Updated my copy to version 3.9.1.2. Use the link above to get it.
Update: Moved file to my Box.com account, as my Dropbox was getting too much traffic.
Edit: Link now takes you to a folder with the updated app. Current version is 3.12.5.

Hi there, when I create in "Audio Cds" if I go to any of the picture tabs, Front, Back or CD, then use "File>Add From File", then click the bottom "Save" it does nothing, and if I click "Close" or the X a popup says, there are unsaved changes do you want to save now ?, and click yes does nothing, you have to click no, in which case it does not save and the thing closes. Anyone else have this problem ? or better yet a solution ?
I had a similar issue saving changes to certain movies. 3.9.12 is out and it seems to have resolved the issue for me. Hopefully it will do the same for you.
Is it the portable PA ? if so where ?
Just the standard version from the author. Hopefully Chris will have some time available soon to build an updated PA version.
I was looking at the faq, and it had this up top:
How is this not an issue for us? I read (breezed) through the posts in this thread and it wasn't mentioned.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
Because on Windows Vista/7 you need to be logged in as an admin in order to run an installer and be able to install files to the Program Files directory. Most installers have the ability built-in to request said rights. Data Crow's may not.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
