Can't help, sorry; some ideas

I have a program at home called PowerMenu which lets you add transparency and always-on-top, as well as process priority, to any normal window (the options are added to the system menu, that menu with restore, minimize, and close that you get when you click the window's icon on the left side of the title bar, before the name). Problem is, the PA.c Platform menu isn't a normal window. It's like Winamp, it's a window, but it doesn't play by the rules. Makes its own.

Another idea: Active Desktop. Have a second version of the menu in an HTML file which is applied as a wallpaper when the menu is started. Only as an option, of course. This super-dynamic active desktop could have shortcuts to all the apps (again, generated by the menu dynamically), as well as shortcuts to certain things that may be hidden, e.g. My Computer. Applying an Active Desktop MIGHT require admin privileges, though; in fact I would be a little surprised if it didn't, considering what all you can do with it. In fact, if Java were present on the flash drive (e.g. make it a requirement) a Java app could be added as well (or Flash or Shockwave if you wanted to use those) and this could in fact replace the menu as we know it, and the menu would only be kept for limited account use. Just depends how awesome the devs want to make this thing; working with hardware vendors to get it bundled, they may wish to keep it simple. But that's a great idea for a fork of the project.

Right Section

Are you sure you added the RemainVisible line to the proper section of the INI?

There may be more than one section of your ini

OOB, the PortableAppsMenu.ini has one section:
[Display Options]
If you've hidden some of the icons, you will see this section, too:
[Apps Renamed]

The RemainVisible=True should be in the [Display Options] section. I don't think there's a special order, but I just put it last.

The behavior you should see is that the menu will stay open all the time, but you can minimize/maximize at will by single-clicking the icon in the system tray.

Also, are you sure you are editing the correct file?
There are two PortableAppsMenu.ini files.
The active one is here:
X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data
This is the one you need to edit.

There's a backup version of the original in case you screw up the active one. If you are editing that one, it won't affect the menu. The backup file is located here:
X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\DefaultData

Hope this helps.

yeah

This is completely stupid.

I didn't read what you had to say but how dumb you open it once and it's minimized then navigate the shortcut *again* and it comes up then stays there until you either close x or double click on the icon in the system tray.

Surely these schmucks can do better.

Obviously, it's a conspiracy

It's excellent that you are posting such a pithy comment, especially after not reading anything.

You know what would work better? If the default behavior of the menu was this:

Click once on the tray icon = Menu opens
Click on an app = Menu minimizes
OR
Click anywhere else on the desktop = Menu minimizes.

Now THAT would make sense.

Oh, wait a minute, that's exactly what it does now!

I hope you take the time to read this!

The biggest issue I have is with the ongoing delay

Everytime I start it up it takes at least a minute to appear.

Even the beta!

Your Issue

listless, as you well know, this is an odd issue specific to you that no one else has been able to replicate and you refuse to give enough information for us to troubleshoot with you (and then insult people when they do try and assist you). Either post a new note with all the details so someone can assist you and respond to all requests for more information, or stop posting about this. At this point, it seems like you are purposely posting about this over and over to be disruptive. Add to that the fact that you like to insult those who are trying to assist you. This is your final warning before you receive a 'cooling off' temporary ban.

well,

the acrobat issue seems to have gone so I'm happy with that.

I'll try and make a new post save being banned.
