Any plans for Firefox 3.0.12 Portable Edition?

Thanks for the development of this great Portable Edition as it allows me to run more than 1 instance of Firefox on my computer.

As Firefox 3.5 is out, do we have plans to continue the development of the Portable Edition of Firefox 3.0? I usually use the old version until it goes End Of Life.

The reason I'm asking is because I've been waiting for close to a week now for its release. Usually it comes out without a day or 2 after the main Firefox release.

Thank you

Interest

If there is interest, we can continue with the 3.0.x branch as well as we have with other releases. However, it is recommended that everyone switch to 3.5.x ASAP as it has several enhancements specifically for the portable version that improve performance over 3.0.x.

For most users, there isn't much reason to stay with 3.0.x other than testing sites as all supported extensions should have been set to work with 3.5.x by now (unlike 2.0 to 3.0, 3.0 to 3.5 hardly breaks any extensions unless the extension publisher hasn't updated the compatibility string to state that the extension works with 3.5).

I'd appreciate this also. I'm

I'd appreciate this also. I'm not quite ready to uninstall 3.0.x.

Thanks for your response

Thanks for your response John. Nothing important on my end to request for 3.0.12 to justify your efforts for a new release. The rest of the folks who responded have better reasons than me. I use the original Firefox 3.0.12 for browsing and only use the portable version for other accounts.

I have PortableApps' Firefox 3.5.x installed the moment it came out to explore its features. Not moving my main version to 3.5.x until 3.0 goes EOL.

Cheers

I still use it ..

as realplayer hasn't updated their software to allow the "download to Realplayer" to work with the 3.5 versions.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

Thanks for Adding 3.0.12

I appreciate that you have responded to user requests and added FF 3.0.12 to the Portable Apps site. I plan to move to 3.5 eventually, but was just not ready yet. Thanks again.

I Vote for 3.0.12 Also

I have been having some unresolved issues with FF 3.5 and rolled back to 3.0.11. From the Mozilla forums, it is apparent that not everyone feels that 3.5 is without problems. Otherwise, why would they release 3.0.12? Anyway, I have 3.5 on my test machine, but 3.0 is still my primary browser.

Why

llseeOtherwise, why would they release 3.0.12?

Mainly, security fixes, as I understand it. I don't believe that, following the release of a new branch of the software, they would add features to the user experience of the old branch that were not present in the new branch, or even features that were.

I think they were around 2.0.13-14 when Firefox 3 came out, and Firefox 2 continued to be developed, I believe, to 2.0.20.

Firefox 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 are all different browsers, albeit very similar. Each new version contains important upgrades to the engine, it isn't just user interface enhancements. Therefore 3.0.12 is not a newer browser than 3.5.1, per se, it's just the latest 3.0, which is and always will be behind the 3.5 branch, from a certain point of view. Another point of view holds that older browsers will run faster, but there are several problems with this, but some continue to hold those beliefs, and that is fine, that's part of why Mozilla continues to support, I believe, the previous forks for a while, to make the transition as painless as possible.

[illegal site] has Firefox Portable 3.0.12

I have found one version of Firefox Portable 3.0.12 in this site: [link to illegal site removed a second time. if you replace it again, you will be banned.]

Will you release your own version 3.0.12 soon?

Sorry, I didn't know that the site reported were illegal.
Did you mean the version of Firefox Portable 3.0.12 is illegal too?

Yup

Their copy of Firefox packaged portably is just as illegal as their pirated version of Photoshop. You can't repackage Firefox without specific permission/license from Mozilla (which we have). Other sites doing it without such a license are doing it illegally.
