Unable to run installer because device/path/file not accessible Windows XP

I am trying to install PA version 1.5.2 on a Windows XP-pro system and get the following error for all flavors of the installation (platform only, light and standard): "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". The installation fails immediately after launching the exe file.

There is no prior thread discussing this problem, so I am stumped why it is uniquely occurring for me. The user account I am using has admin privileges. I have successfully install lot of sourceforge apps using the same account.

Sounds like it could be an

Sounds like it could be an NTFS permissions issue (yes, even though you have admin privileges...) Try moving the installer .exe to some place like your desktop or My Documents and run it again and see if that works.

Quamquam omniam nescio, nec nihil scio.

I'm having the same problem

I tried your suggestions. It gave the same error from wherever I tried running it, from the desktop, my documents folder, even the root of my flash drive.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
BG

I got it to work

I saved the installer on the flash drive then plugged it into a different computer and ran it. I don't know why it didn't work the first time other than perhaps my work computer blocked it somehow.
