On their site they tell:
We would like to emphasize that we did not develop a replacement or substitution to the PortableApps framework. Yes, it is absolutely compatible with the PortableApps platform. But in addition, CodySafe allows operation with any portable application. It combines an unexampled set of useful options and features, applications and utilities.
What does that mean for portableapps.com?
It's Yet-Another-Menu(TM). It's basically a replacement for the PortableApps.com Menu. And they've got several misleading statements right on their page... like trying to make it seem like the PortableApps.com Platform only works with PortableApps.com Format apps (it works with all portable apps). Oh, and it's closed source. And it'll be payware. And only a beta is being released on Saturday. And it won't work with our app language switching or fully with our installers, etc.
Most of the features they claim as unique are already in the PortableApps.com Platform (adding apps, adding apps not in PAF, know the free space left, links to documents/music/videos). Or are coming in the test release of 1.6 later today (like auto-running specific apps).
Their only claim to fame thus far is Freeraser which is basically a clone of Eraser Drop Target which you can grab from our Development Tests page.
As to what it means... it means business as usual. Same when 8Start and Portable Start Menu and all the other Yet-Another-Menu options came out.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I actually think its really cool. I like that auto-scan for viruses option and drive doctor options. I think that you might want to think about adding something like that to your menu except that you could use clamwin instead. I also like the idea of being able to easily rename an app.
And what's wrong with it being payware? Its still free.
Hey... maybe PA could create something like a "PAMM" or (PortableApps.com Mega Menu) It could be like a community project where everyone here can input their ideas into the menu from others they liked ex. I like the virus run on startup from CodySafe, I like the direct "install new (.paf.exe) program" from the PA platform. I like the resize from appetizer. I like the simplicity of PStart. etc. etc. etc.
Think about it...
And about CodySafe...
Why did they use a cruzer U3 micro as the image for the flash drive and not photoshop they're own? are they related to U3? they also used "...Smart Drive" as a default name for the flash drive.
And I also think the menu's name is cheezy... CodySafe? wow.
Found a typo when adding my recover flash drive info, they said prewiew instead of preview. Why doesn't PA have recovery info?
Also why doesn't PA show that popup window directly after you press eject? I can only eject through PA's menu with admin privileges.
I do like it CodySafe though.
Some of it is slight of hand. The 'recovery tool'? All it does is place a text file in the root directory of the drive. That's it. You can do that yourself. And the disk checker is just an app on top of the disk tool for Windows.
You can easily rename and hide apps in the current release of the PA.c Menu and even easier in 2.0 Beta which you'll find in the development forums. And you can check your drive for errors easily in the PA.c Platform (just click Options - Check Drive for Errors in the 2.0 Beta).
Something about the developer... he has a portable version of The KMPlayer, which is a known GPL violator. So that means the he is comfortable violating the GPL, since he is repackaging and redistributing an app with known GPL violations:

I know that it was a bit lame but still, its the thought that counts right? I also like that it is so simple. My mom's boss said "I was so smart" and liked it better than PA.
And maybe the developer doesn't know about his GPL violation. I decided to try and tell him so I made an account at the website but I still haven't got the confirmation link. I tried easywhois [dot] com and I couldn't find any info.
I also looked online and couldn't find any thing that connected CodySafe to U3

And I still want to hear your thoughts about "PAMM"
PortableApps is free and legal... I'm pretty sure it'll be around for a while. At least these guys are't all pirated software, though, I don't think they are allowed to redistribute XMPlay without Un4seen Development's say-so. I'll stick with PA.com, thank you very much. I can trust these guys, here.
Hey! Where'd it go?
