PDF to AbiWord to HTML

Hi, this may be a strange request but I wish to add bookmarks to my ebooks and I think by converting from PDF to HTML the file becomes smaller??? Maybe this only happens in certain instances, I don't know, I'm no programmer.

Ultimately I'd like an exact copy of my PDF doc's edited to include bookmarks and images but as I can't find a free portable PDF editor I thought perhaps use HTML as an alternative.

I've performed some trials and copied the contents of a couple PDF's into Abiword then saved as .html files. Some are ok and are only around a quarter of the size of the original, but others are around four times larger, anyone know why that is?

I have to admit this is a task and a half as I know nothing about HTML but I would like to learn. Well, that is if I need to as Abiword seems to do the hard work for you.

One problem I had was in one .doc there was a Table Of Contents which when saved as .html turned the TOC into links/bookmarks. How do I repeat this for other documents?

Thanks

Scott

I'm not sure what you're

I'm not sure what you're doing with the images in your request, but supposedly the following software is free and allows you to add bookmarks to existing PDF files.

http://www.pdf995.com/why.html
http://www.pdf995.com/download.html

Also, the free Foxit Reader supposedly allows the user to insert bookmarks to the PDF file if the security settings allow it.

PS: This isn't portable software, but hopefully you own a computer to install it on.

Thanks for the info i'll give

Thanks for the info i'll give those a try, yes i do own a laptop so that's ok for Foxit to be installed

Smile Smile Smile

EDIT: As far as I can tell Foxit seems to be portable though I've no idea how to check the high standards of portability required by PA.c I couldn't find anything.

Also, PDFEdit995,etc, can be portable though again not entirely sure, if you use Universal Extractor on it and Signature995 they can be run without install.

Maybe you know more about this than me?

Thanks again, btw Foxit is great, better than Sumatra.
