Umm

I had already removed it, us mods can do that sort of thing Wink No harm done though I suppose.

well idk if im gonna continue

well idk if im gonna continue on this anymore as i recently found out that glarysoft offers a portable build and by the looks of it, it is sorta in paf format and it does take care of most of its data but i do know that it leaves registry behind and I also think mine does too so your probably better off using their build at the moment until i can get a chance to look at this and see if I can take my launcher a step further than theirs. Maybe ill try to contact them and maybe if we get permission to put thier portable build here we can let John know and then once he supports freeware utilities then glarysoft can become an official paf app. But there would be no guarantees this would happen.

Interesting

So it's very similar to CCleaner, except with more features? As far as cleaning temp files/invalid registry entries, is it better or worse than CCleaner, or are all of these types of apps created about equal?

I like the idea of managing shell extensions. Too many apps use them and they seldom do enough good to justify the resources they take up. WinRAR, 7-Zip, and WinZIP are all terrible for this, though in each one they're easily disabled in their app. So if I had something like this on my flash drive, I could whip someone's unruly computer into shape a lot faster than tracking down the apps and their system integration settings.

And, is this freeware?

Hard to say

It's difficult to say outright if Glary is better than CCleaner. It does have some features that CCleaner does not however CCleaner is much more recommended for its functions. Glary has a freeware version and a Pro version. It is a great but I would say it serves better as an accompanying app to CCleaner rather than a replacement. Like AV's, some pick up some virii and others pick up other virii. However none are perfect so it's best to have a secondary scanner. Therefore it's good to have a secondary disk cleaner such as Glary in addition to CCleaner as your primary.

In addition I personally use Clean After Me, DiskCleaner Portable, RegSeeker and Free Windows Registry Repair. According to PortableFreeware.com all these apps are portable though only one is OSS. Still wouldn't complain about someone creating launchers = )

Hope this helps.

Cool

Well CleanAfterMe is 100% portable so far as I know but still for uniformity and incase there is something I'm missing I'd take a launcher for that. If its on offer one for regseeker and registry repair would also be pretty helpful.

Cheers

Anyone likely to pick this up?

Anyone likely to pick this up? As noted above the software author has developed a portable version though this is thought to leave behind a registry entry or 2. Should be easy to pull this in a PAF Live launcher. Oh and the apps new GUI looks quite nice Wink

Oh, I just noticed you updated your post, I was going to say there's a portable version at the site, but you already made note of that. Still, I'll post the link for others.

"That other site" has Glary Utilities Portable, not sure how far you trust them, and wouldn't blame you if you said "not at all", but just saying, it's already been done, if you don't mind sailing under a skull and crossbones. Me, I'd rather go by the book and use a live installer, if one ever gets made; until then, I've been using CleanAfterMe (out of the zip file, not a PAF'd version).

Yeah I've looked at that

Yeah I've looked at that other site and was sorely tempted to grab Glary from there today but decided not to. Also their distributing the Pro/Pay version of the app which would make it illegal. So yeah like yourself I'm waiting. I'll use the portable build for now and hope it doesn't leave to much crud behind.

OK, so I just had a look at

OK, so I just had a look at this. Seems like a useful thing to have.

Yes, the portable version leaves a registry entry in HKCU (and a file in the TEMP directory) so I whipped up a PAF Live (!) installer/launcher which takes care of it and adds language switching, settings backup etc.

The only thing I've noticed is that the app doesn't save the skin settings. Not too serious...

If you're up for some testing I'll upload. And if Nathan9222 doesn't mind, of course.
