For anyone who wants to request ubuntu live CD.

An ubuntu live usb disk has problems booting in older systems, since their BIOS isn't set up to boot from USB. You have to edit the BIOS settings manually, and allow booting from your flash drive. But, this can be a problem in public places, because when they see you tweaking with their computer's BIOS, you're probably gonna get kicked out. This is a problem with mostly all live CD operating systems. The only practical way to run a linux distro off a USB disk is probably to use a Virtual Machine, unless you're running a newer computer. So, could someone develop a portable virtual machine with ubuntu built into it? And, yes I have heard of Portable Ubuntu for Windows and Portable Ubuntu Remix, but those just run the ubuntu title bar at the top of the screen, and run a few ubuntu programs. I'm looking for a full ubuntu desktop with the latest LTS release or the release of your choice that runs inside a window.

That's great!

Because a lot of computers don't have that ability, and I'm trying to request an ubuntu virtualbox with all of the default apps, and the ability to keep all your settings and programs with you.

nothing of that can be portable

in the sense of using it when underway.

Any virtual machine, including virtual box, has to install drivers prior use. This needs admin rights, so it wont work on library and other public terminals.

Similar about the nice poratble ubuntu. This is very impressive approach to the problem, but also here, drivers need to be installed so to run this admin tights are essential too.

And well if you have rights, the portable ubuntu can be used as anyother ubuntu, install new apps from ubuntu or even with apt-get from debian directly, no problem. Only problem is, that you will reach the maximum size of the volume soon this way if placed all on a stick. And it is all very, very slow.

And for virtual box, you can get lot of ubuntu for virtual box installtions from the net, so why to produce things again?

usbuntu

is the thing you might look for in the net. (google)

But portable with virtual box? No, not possible, unless you have admin rights you will not be able to start it.

usbuntu is a VM creator. It will download and install virtual box on your usb stick, it will download and install standard ubuntu onto it and is very simple to use.
Appart from admin rights and speed limit by all those usb transfers, well it is exactly what you are asking for.
Useful? I have no clue how to use it for some serious work, but just to have for the purpose to have it, fine.

I have it and yes it works. (somehow)

Here ya go

http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableubuntu/

It's not in a window, but rather seamless. What you have the option of doing is updating the operating system to the latest LTS release, if you have a couple hours, if it isn't 9.04 already.

Hey! Where'd it go?

Just read this

and follow instructions... http://www.pendrivelinux.com/

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin
