Lightscreen 1.0 - Windows 98, No Go.

I've been unable to get "Lightscreen 1.0" portable to run on Windows 98 Standard Edition (aka First Edition) machine. On PortableApps site, it's one of the compatible operating systems.

Get messages in dialog boxes. In the first box:

"G:\PortAppsPlatform\PortableApps\LightscreenPortable\App\Lightscreen\lightscreen.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning."

and then in the "Error Starting Program" dialog box:

"The LIGHTSCREEN.EXE file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderPathW."

To best of my knowledge "Shell32.dll version 4.72.3812.600" is current for this operating system.

Anybody running it on Windows 98 First Edition?

Win 9x Dropped

It looks like Lightscreen used to support Win9x but doesn't now (this error usually indicates that). I've updated the Lightscreen page to remove the affected OSes. You can switch back to an older version of Lightscreen Portable which you can get here (scroll down... warning, slow page):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Lightscreen Portable 0.5 - Windows 98... Works fine.

Dropped down to "Lightscreen Portable 0.5". Seems to be working fine with Windows 98 Standard Edition (aka First Edition). Once again, I'm using version 4.72.3812.600 of "Shell32.dll". This is the version I ended up with after re-installing Windows 98 and applying essentially all of the critical/recommended updates (A Microsoft fix regarding Adobe Flash didn't update for some reason).

I don't know if there's a newer version of Shell32.dll that's compatible with Windows 98. I've read that version 5.0 something came out with Windows ME and Windows 2000 but it's beyond my current experience level to know whether you can successfully cut and paste this file between operating systems and/or software packages.

I neglected to mention in my first post, that invocation of portable Lightscreen 1.0 from the menu showed splash screen for about one second before it disappeared (as in died) leaving no error messages. It was only when I kicked off the underlying executable from the "Lightscreen" subdirectory, that the messages appeared.

For the parent of this build, the "non-portable" version of Lightscreen 1.0, I could find no list of supported operating systems. So I sent e-mail to project administrator (Christian Kaiser aka "k39@users.sourceforge.net") regarding that and my error messages under Windows 98. I will post back if they indicate it is supported and they provide reasonable explanation/fix for my error messages.

At any rate, thank you for your quick response.
