I just started using Portable Firefox. It is working great. But I do have 1 gripe, When I close out portable Firefox I have to wait about 60 seconds before I can pull the drive out.
I have cache set to 0 in Firefox. Can’t think of what else to do to cut down on the writes to the drive when I close out Firefox. Any suggestions? Or is this normal behavior for Portable Firefox to write to the drive for 60sec when closing it out?
I am using a corsair 1gig flash voyager USB drive.

Do you have any extentions with a session saver or something similar?
How many extensions do you have?

This is my first USB drive, just got it a few days ago. I have 9 extensions. No I do not have session saver or anything similar. I tried it with no extension and there was little or no difference to the amount of writing to the drive after closing out Firefox. It does the same thing on 4 pc's I have tried it on so far.
So from what you are saying this is not normal behavior? I am assuming it is writing to the drive, meaning the light is blinking on the drive after I close out Firefox for a good 60 sec. While I am running Firefox there does not seem to be much activity on the drive at all. It's only after I shut down Firefox?
Transfer speed of the flash factors into this, also. Slower drives will take longer to "finalize". I have one that acts this way. Exact same setup on another drive runs faster.

Ok I seem to have narrowed it down to my bookmarks. When I deleted portable Firefox and started over again everything default, the writes to the drive when closing Firefox took less than 10 seconds. It was not until I imported all my bookmarks did the writes to the drive increase to 60 seconds.
I then opened my portable Firefox profile folder and watched as I closed out portables Firefox and it seems that it completely rewrites the bookmarks folder everytime I close out Firefox even if I have made no changes to the bookmarks folder?
Is there a entry in "about:config" that I can modify to prevent this from happening? If there is it would solve my problem. But I don't know what to change.
Just some added info. I did some tests to the drive being it is a brand new USB drive.
I can write 100mbs worth of MP3s files to the drive in less then 20 seconds. This seems very good to me. How is it I can write 100mb worth of MP3s in less then half the time it takes to close out portable Firefox? I am not complaining, I just am not understanding being even my rather large bookmark file is still only 900kbs?
Portable open office works great. The only thing that seems to be slow on the USB drive is closing Portable Firefox when I add my booksmarks folder to the profile?
This seems like it may be some kind of bug to me? Anybody else?
Writing big files and writing little files are VERY VERY different. I've seen drives that can write a 5mb MP3 in no time, but slow to a crawl when they have to make lots of tiny (less than 1KB each) writes. Firefox does lots of small writes for cookies and bookmarks. Especially with certain extensions involved.
Currently, there is no solid measurement of drive speed in relation to portable app use. I'm working on that one.
