Hi,
sorry if this was already posted some time ago - didn't find something with Google or the search function (or I'm to dumb to use it).
I would like to make TotalCommander (and some other non free applications - but I will use only TotalCommander in this post as example) portable so I could use it every where I go (yeah I have a license).
But because it is silly to development it just for me, I have thougth that it could be legal (I not so sure about it) to develop the launcher only and to tell the user to copy the real program (in this example the TotalCommander files) to a specific directory so the launcher could find the executable files. There is no distributing of programs that are not freely available and so there is no problem with GPL or other OS license. The launcher is developed under an OS license so it could be distributed on this page.
What do you think about this? Is it ok to do it so?

P.S.:
Sorry for my bad english. I come from Germany (and it is 9 a.m. early in the morning *yawn*)
This has been done in a number of cases. There's actually a better way of doing it now: have the installer download it itself. Read up in the PortableApps.com Format Documentation about the Installer, especially the
DownloadFiles
section.I am a Christian and a developer and moderator here.

Ah thank you very much.
I'm going to write some launchers for non opensource software then ^^
