Toucan 2.1.3 Pre-Release 3 has now been uploaded, this is a bugfix and minor feature release. Testing is much appreciated, especially if you do not use the English translation as the settings and jobs files have changed and verification that the updater works would be great!

Keeps Crashing

This latest build crashes on certain sync jobs. ...When I tried updating one folder, it crashed, but updating a different folder worked fine. It also crashed when I tried copying two files from my computer to my flash drive. Not sure how to troubleshoot this one. Thanks.

Report

Things I've found out so far:

  1. DisableStream still needs to be set to 1, otherwise it misses some files.
  2. Point 3 of my post at "Translating Toucan" (creating new job) is still broken:
    • Sync, Backup and Secure show the title, but no message.
    • Rules show message but no title
    • Variables and Script both work well
  3. I haven't been able to test much further, because I can't get it to even begin a sync job. It immediately crashes (and when I restart Toucan it lists a LastSyncJob in the ComboBox).

I have

uploaded pre-release 2. The big change in this release is the migration to Visual Studio for the compilation of Toucan. This means a (much) smaller exe size and a new but as yet not implemented feature in the next pre-release. The sync crashing has been fixed and Greek language support added. The hunt is still on as to why Toucan misses a few files with streams enabled! Thanks for your support Smile

Pre-Release 3

is now up, this is a quick fix over yesterdays release fixing a major bug in sync which caused major slowdowns. It also tweaks a few bits of logic so Toucan.tmp files should no longer be left behind Smile

shouldn't you change the top

shouldn't you change the top note to Pre-release 3 instead of having another Pre-release 2 notes section Blum

2.1.3 pre3 report
  1. New job dialogs are still wrong:
    • Sync, Backup and Secure show the title, but no text
    • Rules has text, but no title
    • Variable and Script are fine
  2. I don't know what "remember entered information" does. Program seems to behave the same whether it is checked or not.
  3. I think there should be a "clean config" button in each tab. Once you have a job configured there is no easy way to erase all settings and start anew on another (without adding it)
  4. In Backup tab, if you have selected for example Ultra compression, and you add a new job, the compression slider moves to the "default" position, but the caption still reads "ultra".
  5. Adding a new job with an empty name, "creates" the job in the combobox, but does not allow to erase it, nor to save changes to it. Restarting the program gets rid of those empty jobs.

I haven't been able to test the actual sync jobs and scripts, will try on Monday.

Thank you Steve for your work.

  1. I didn't get round to fixing the first item, doing it now though!
  2. It should mean Toucan remembers what jobs etc you have open when you close it (even if you haven't saved them), I'll check this and make sure it works properly.
  3. Yes, you are right, I'll have a think about where it would be best to put one (possibly in the release after this)
  4. Thanks, I'll get it fixed
  5. This one too

Thanks as always for the feedback Smile

Sync tests

We're having "fun" at work thanks to a network worm, so I have only been able to perform a somewhat limited test.

  • With DisableStream set to 0, previewing a sync job is much slower than with DisableStream=1 (I didn't test this with previous versions, so perhaps it is by design).

  • With streams disabled, preview did detect 6 files out of a few hundred which needed to be updated; however when performing the actual sync *nothing* was copied.

On the plus side, I suffered no crashes at all.

I'll try to test further tomorrow.

More tests

I spoke too soon. I suffered a crash today, although I haven't been able to reproduce it.

With streams enabled, a *new* file is detected, and consequently copied on the next sync. However changes to that file are being detected in the preview, but not synced.

This behavior is reproducible on a network share (running Win XP locally, server is Novell Netware). Trying the same on two local directories worked flawlessly though.

The files I used were empty txt's which I edited one letter at a time.

Crashing

For some reason, Pre-Release 3 keeps crashing during and Update sync job. It will get part way though the update but near the end, with what looks like 5% to go, it crashes. I've had this when trying to update .mp3s and smaller files like word documents.
