OpenOffice doesn't find Java

I have installed on the memory card OpenOffice 3.1. portable in teh directory G:Portable\OpenOfficePortable

I have installed Java into G:\Commonfiles\Java. Then I copied the file sfrom there into G:Portable\OpenOfficePortable\Apps\Java as it was described on this site.

As well I installed Java runtime enviroment and run Java Portbalizer 1.1.

When I start to run Writer, it takes may be 2 minutes to start. When I check Java options, then it is able to find Java only on PC C: disk. Moreover, the cehckbox is non-checked, and after I checked it, finish the application and start it again, the the box left unchecked still.

I am not a specialist neither in OpenOffice nor in Java.

Am I doing something incorrect? Should I start at first after Java installtion OpenOffice Ofiice, or OpenOfficeBase?

Is it a true taht without installed Java enviroment Open office run much slower/

Thanks in advance!

Try This

Have OpenOffice.org at G:\Portable\OpenOfficePortable and install Java Portable to G:\Portable\CommonFiles\Java. See if that works properly. Be sure you see a bin and other directories in G:\Portable\CommonFiles\Java when done.

You should probably rename Portable to PortableApps. Then whenever you run an installer, it will automatically find the right place to install without you having to do it manually every time.

Now Java is discovered properly, but requires manual activation

Thank you for your advice.

I have moved OpenOffice folder and Common files directory as you suggested, and currently OpenOffice applications are able to discover both Java on memory card and on C: disk of PC.

But still it requires every time after OpenOffice application starts to go to Options-Java and manually click the tick box, as on start up the checkbox appears non-ticked.

Is it how it should be or there is a way to make the Java is alreaday activated from memory card, when I start portable OpenOffice application?

In my case there are slightly differrent versions of Java and memory card, 1.6.0.15 and 1.6.0.14 accordingly. I tried to upgrade Portable Java 14 to 15 by installing to the same folder, but upon completion of Java installaion and restart of OpenOffice it still shows me that I have portable 1.6.0.14 version. But this shouldn' t matter in regards whether OpenOffice starts with active Java, right?

Did you install Java Portable Launcher?

Did you use it?

You have to start it in order for JAVA to work.

Nope

That's just if you have JAR-packaged Java apps you want to try running portably.

Java Start Parameters relative path

The real point is that on a portable installation the drive path is frequently changing.
The Java startup parameters in OpenOffice seems to work only with absolute path?!
Why it is not possible to use a relative path?
For example " \ \ PortableApps \ Common Files \ Java " to be entered?
Is this a problem of the programmers of OpenOffice.org - or
Is this a problem of the programmers of OpenOffice.org Portable?
Or of the programmers of Java Portable?
This problem should be resolved urgently!
Otherwise, OpenOffice Portable does not work for laymen!

It Works Fine

It will work fine unless you mess with it. Just install OpenOffice.org Portable to X:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable and then Java Portable to X:\PortableApps\CommmonFiles\Java. The OpenOffice.org Portable launcher will automatically find Java and it will all just work (and it automatically updates the path as it changes PCs).

If you ever manually change the Java settings, you break the automation and it won't work anymore. If you install Java Portable to the wrong location, it won't work either.

If you already second-guessed the launcher and broke the automation, the easiest thing to do is to reset OpenOffice.org Portable's settings by deleting the OpenOfficePortable\Data directory.
