How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

"How To Ask Questions The Smart Way"

I found this to be a very Long, but very interesting read.

Some of it would Not apply to us, but much of it does.
[Our behavior standards lean more toward the Higher/Politer/Helpfuler side Smile ]

New comers of course will not likely see this before posting but it would be of great value to some members in how to improve their questions and responses.

This is a pretty good read...:)

Is it me or does it seem to be directed towards the 'Hacker' ideal
It refers to the forum members as hackers ;?

You are probably right, but i

You are probably right, but i chose not to read too much into the term itself.
The "how to" is what interested me. Much of it could be used in something like a bible support forum.

Let's not get -ot about the term Wink

Well, maybe I read into the

Well, maybe I read into the word the wrong way...

Q:
How can I crack root/steal channel-ops privileges/read someone's e-mail?

A:
You're a lowlife for wanting to do such things and a moron for asking a hacker to help you.

Who knows...Either way, you're right, the main content is the important thing...and very relevant, so lets not go in that direction Smile

It will never happen.

All most newbies see is the post a new topic button. They don't search, they don't research. They end up asking for stuff that we can't do or won't do. I suggested a while back just ignoring the ignorant posts like: "Can you make MS Office portable for me? That would really be great. Thanks!"

As I said...

As I said New comers of course will not likely see this before posting

This is really intended for those who have been here and have not learned yet how to ask or how to reply.

Mostly it says what I always

Mostly it says what I always say:

  1. Provide as much information as possible
  2. Make sure its reproducible (and include how you do that :D)
  3. Extra points for Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation

I read that!

One of the Linux Mint devs sent that to me when I posted a bug report on my MP3 player.

I've also misread the link where it said /faqs/ like five times. (I took out the part that said /smart-questions.html for the URL and found out that's what it was.)
