My portableapps runs slowly

Hi !

Well my problem:

I've got an 8GB pendrive, and I've installed there the portableapps.
When I'm installing an app, the installation runs very slow, and take some time, but that's not all.
When I try to run an application, I click in the icon, but the application doesn't run till the minute or two minutes after clicking. Inmediatly opens the image with the program and the name of the app, but the app doesn't work till the minuteor 2 minutes.

Is that normal? How can I do to run the programs faster??

Thanks

Doesn't work properly

It sounds like it doesn't work properly.

Have you got an antivirus program which could be slowing it down, and are you using USB 1.1 or 2?

Could it be the drive?

I also use Avast, and it doesn't slow anything down appreciably.

If you have USB 2.0 ports, then the problem could be the drive itself.
Some off-brand or knockoff drives use substandard materials.
Even reputable manufacturers can have an occasional bad drive.

If you want to isolate the problem, try the drive in another computer, and try a different drive in your computer.

Probably slow memory

I found a nice program that tests the speed of your flash drive. I have a few (had, i gave the slow ones away Smile with a copy of PAF suite, of course).

The program is: (one sec)... USBDeview ... short for USB Device Viewer, i suppose.

I believe i got it on Pendriveapps.com

it is available in several locations...

try this one;

The Portable Freeware Collection - USBDeview
Synopsis: USBDeview is a small utility that lists all USB devices that currently connected to your computer, as well as all USB devices that you previously ...

Are all apps equally slow?

Some of the larger apps, like OpenOffice, Firefox, or VLC are relatively slow when opening, while smaller ones like FileZilla open more quickly.
Usually the splash screen shows up quickly regardless of the app.
And is it actually one or two minutes?
That's a pretty long time, and I know that myself, I can overestimate how long things take on a computer; so if you could time them, and see if different apps load at different speeds, we might be able to tell you a little more.
