ToDoList by AbstractSpoon

ToDoList is completely free and is available here (link removed). ToDoList is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License.

ToDoList is a rare form of task management tool, one that allows you to repeatedly sub-divide your tasks into more manageable pieces whilst still presenting a clean and intuitive user experience.

ToDoList has been in continuous development for the last 5 years and is an ongoing project.

Tasklists are stored in XML which provides many opportunities for advanced formatting and printing using stylesheets.

ToDoList's flexible design makes it ideal for both IT related projects as well as more general GTD uses.

CC!=OSS

CC Licensed software is not Open source, so cannot be made into an official Portable App.

Use the search box! Please!

Bullshit!

Bullshit!

Creative commons licenced software may or may not be open source.

It depends entirely on which CC licence is used. Dumping them into one single category shows complete ignorance of how the Creative Commons licences work.

For example, the opensource.org WWW site itself is under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 licence (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the case of "ToDoList", this is licenced under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.5 licence (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.5/) - which is practically IDENTICAL to the one the opensource.org WWW site uses, with the exception it adds the requirement that subsequent works use the same licence - as per section 3 of the opensource definition (http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd)

i.e. There should be NO problem with creating a portableapps version of this software.

Not OSI

I think what he means is that while it may be somewhat open source-ish, it is not an OSI-approved license. Nor will it ever be. It requires attribution like the old BSD license did and which has been dropped from the modern BSD license which is OSI approved.

The creative commons licenses are not meant to be used with software.

What then?

What would be an appropriate OSI-approved license then?

Thanks

Thanks John, I propose to go with the Simple Public License (SimPL). I've updated my website and the next version of my software will also contains this change.

Shall I post again once all the changes are in place?

Sure

Sure, that works. Seems like a good license and allows you to take from it into the GPL (the most popular open source license).

BTW - I wasn't saying we couldn't make it portable under a CC license, I was just pointing out that it's not, technically, a real open source license by OSI rules.

Finally Sorted

Hi John

I've finally got round to releasing the latest version of ToDoList under an Eclipse Public License 1.0.

My prefered download URL is (link removed)

This is also the home of the Wiki where users can find help documentation and other useful information.

Is there anything else I need to do to get approval from PortableApps.com?

Dan

Excellent

We just need to get it in PortableApps.com Format for the portable version. We can assist with that or do it for you. And you can either build and host it yourself (and list it here). Or we can host it for you.

What's Needed

Great news John.

What's needed to get it into PertableApps.com Format? Is there a page somewhere I can get the information?

Good Program

This app would be a great addition to the portableapps library. I've used it a bit and, while similar to TaskCoach, it seems a little more mature having all the features you'd expect from a task management/todo list application.
