Foxmail rocks, especially the built-in hotmail proxy.
This would make a nice clean easy portable app!!!!
Hope it goes through as atleast a thought.

Vookster, posting duplicate threads when you are aware of and have commented in the other is a no-no in forums. It clutters them up and is basically the equivalent of bumping... but one step worse. Please refrain from doing it.

Sorry...i swore the original thread was in the general section...and i did search...but i thought it was in the general section.
Also, the original thread was not posted by me, nor did it have any follow-through in it...it just cliffed off into nothing leaving me and anyone else hanging b/c there was no definative answer in the thread.
Sorry, but i feel im only half wrong. I did F-up and technically post a duplicate thread...but they should be replyed to by a mod or admin (with mod or admin next to the posting name so we know) with a comment on one's request...this way morons like myself wont feel the urge to try and get a "yes, no or maybe" reply on the request.

It's not like we can modify it and make a portable version of it, anyway. It's closed source (read: modifications are illegal). Besides, the primary reason for wanting it portable mentioned in the other thread (being able to send via different accounts, smtp servers and aliases) all works within Thunderbird Portable just fine.
And regarding the duplicate post, you commented in the other thread (bumping it to the top of the tracker) and then started a brand new thread about it 7 minutes later. So, we have two threads about the exact same app asking the exact same thing at the top of the tracker, which is clutter. Make sense now?

I'm not aware of that! I played around with Thunderbird for a while and found it uses one preferred smtp server and account.
And Thunderbird (like most other email clients) only allows the use of ONE set of account boxes (in the left account pane). In Foxmail I can set up different sets of account boxes and send simultaneously from the different outboxes, via different smtp servers. I don't think Thunderbird does anything like that.
I do seem to remember, though, that in Thunderbird's help file it says that one can "try" to send via a "secondary" account, but that this is not safe, or something to that effect.
Anyway, for vookster: there's a no-install version of KooMail (not free) that is very, very similar to Foxmail (they probably imitated it), but improved. The compressed no install version seems to work even after the trial period, with just a nag screen to click away ("buy later"). Good enough for use on a USB stick, I'd say.

I have 9 different IMAP accounts setup in Thunderbird with 9 different SMTP accounts. Each has their own seperate inbox. And some of the accounts I have a half dozen aliases set up on them. When you reply or compose, it will use the account you were last viewing (or default in the case of local folders) and you can easily select the outgoing address/alias in the compose screen. It's all pretty easy once you set it up.
Some people are confused because Thunderbird, by default, uses a single default SMTP server, and will use it for new accounts you set up. But just head to Tools - Account Settings and then select Outgoing Server (SMTP) and you can set up as many SMTP servers as you want. Then, for each account, you can individually assign it an SMTP server on the main account screen. You can also setup aliases from there by clicking the Manage Identities button.

...that's great news! Still have difficulties believing it all and that I missed all that!! Gotta download TB instantly and see for myself. Seeing is believing.
