We have part-time employees using different pc's. Any of the pc is mainly used by a fullt-time employee. Any of the pc's has a local installation of TB for the full-timer.
I now thougt, it would be a nice idea to have TB portable for the part-timers to be able to use it on any of the pc's. It doesn't seem to work.
If i start TB portable from usb it offers the locally installed profiles.
Is there really no way to combine local and portable "installations" on one single pc?
First let me welcome you here
Normally Thunderbird should "see" that there is a local install of Thunderbird and back it up before running so the local settings remain untouched. Btw this is the case with all Apps from here.
Is there something unusual with your PCs / setup ?

when you tried to start the usb one? On my laptop, I've got a local as my archive and use my usb one everywhere, even at my laptop.
Or are you, for example, clicking on an email link on a website and it opens the local version instead of the portable one? The PC can sometimes not know which one to use unless you fiddle with it.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
It seems,that I made it.
The checkbox automatically (not!) asking for the profiles was checked.
I unchecked the box and starting the portable Version really starts the program from usb.
Starting the local version now asks for the local profiles.
Thank you very much for everbody trying to help me!

First question: are you sure that the local Thunderbird install is definitely not running when you start the portable one?
Second question: are you running the ThunderbirdPortable.exe launcher or the Thunderbird.exe application in the app\thunderbird folder?
Third question: have you changed any of the TBP configuration from default (e.g. edited any .ini files, copied in a profile, etc.) ?
