AVG INET SECURITY TB Hungs

I have just installed new AVG Internet security on My PC at Work and I have now problem with Thunderbird portable. It seems to hung on access to the mail folder when I click on send, receive o create mail it just replays working with this folder and there is continuously running progress bar at the bottom. Previous version AVG 7.5 had no effect on functionality and TB worked just fine.

Does anybody have an idea what may cause this?

New Security Measures Disable Thunderbird Portable

I had the same problem with my school computers. Before they updated them for the fall semester with new security measures it worked fine. Now, its "security something prevents database access" or whatver. I can't remember cause I deleted all my Mozilla "stuff" and switched to Opera@USB (it is a little glitchy for mail, but otherwise pretty good... not sure about widgets/plugins yet)

So, is there some setting that can bypass the security measures?

I can't even send an email with Thunderbird, but Opera@usb works fine (mostly)... at least i can send email and read em, just cant delete from server, and has dupe problems.

try ssl

we had the same problem at work.
our firewall does update itself time to time and after such update, we are not able to use pop3 mail protocol at all. Since then, we use the pop3 again, but connecting to the outside mailserver via SSL. Check if your mailserver supports it, many free mailservers do not suppoer encrypted traffic.

At one time we had also problems with SMTP, similar, was simply prevented by the firewall update, a week later this nonsense went, next update fixed it.

Complain to your admin or to AVG, it might be fixed then.

Not going to happen

No way is my school going to listen to me. I am sure they are actively trying to prevent all activity from any portable device. So far they are ignoring or ignorant of Opera portable. They have every other mail client i've tried stymied.

protocol or clint blocked?

it depends on what is actually blocked. Is it the action of mailclient itself? or simply the smtp protocol not passing?
Opera, how do you use it? The mail client from it or just webmail interface to your mail account?
If it is the protocol, then it should make same problem what ever mailer is used.
But as I mentioned, if your provider supports SSL for the mail protocols, try to activate it and see. Often this can not be filtered due to the timeout in the handshake in the authentication and use of short life session keys.

yeah, tried that

i tried ssl, tlc, whatever, got tired of messing with it and switched to opera

it seems to use it's web interface for the email client functionality. it is all in the same window, one of the tabs.

there is a sidebar with various things including a mail button that pops out your folder/account list

I had a problem with dupes and deleting from the server till i figured out gmail's settings for those things. (i'm kinda slow sometimes Wink )

works great, and opera is fantastic... i am looking forward to v. 11

the usb version is the latest build

Woah

Getting a little ahead of yourself there, I see. Opera 10 just came out, don't rush 11 already!
