I would prefer to use SyncBack but it stores it setting to the registry. Does anybody have any suggestions on an alternative that can compress the backups. I tried portable Abakt but it had some downfalls. The most anoying is that if I just want to copy a file it won't do it without storing it in the same path in the destination directory. Thanks

The next version of SyncBackSE will not use the registry anymore and does not require any DLL's to be registered anymore.
I am using a beta already and it is really great.

Just want to point out here that, after my last update of SyncBack to version 3.2.12.0, Spybot Search&Destroy detected a relatively harmless "spyware" file in the Windows system folder put there by SyncBack. Can't remember it's name and exact location. Can't say, too, whether it was not put there by a previous SyncBack and Spybot just detected it now. Removing that file is no problem at all. But I'll keep checking for it after every update of SyncBack now. Maybe do a scan with Spybot!

Just checked in Spybot that has the file logged. It's this one:

C:\Windows\eSellerateControl350.dll
It is the license-checker-dll, which was an false alarm by the spybot programs.
I see it even increase that so known "security" companies do add a lot of files which are nonsens.
The last I know of, which brought our total systems out of balance was, that anti-virus-companies did add cmdow.exe to the "hacking-tools-list".

The explanation is, that the program can hide windows. Ok, so what about outlook? it can transport viruses, so we should add that one, too.
So they start to get into security-delusion at the moment, so always keep your eyes on what they do and keep some common sense.
We will get hard times in the future if they go on like that. Maybe regwrapper will then be a hacking tool, as it intercepts the registry writes

Good you point out again the innocence of the file. Anyway, removing it doesn't do any harm, too.
The other point is that this here is about portable apps and there's a lot of interest in what or whether they write something to the host computer. Obviously SyncBack writes that file during installation or an update and not by just using it.
Just the clean freaks, who don't want anything written on their computer should know that they probably got that (innocuous) file by SyncBack in their root folder.

I think that the full version is well worth the 25 bucks.
It is my eyes a very good price for what it can do.
But thats anybodys own choice.
I must admit that I NEVER regretted the buy so far.
