Is there a way to synchronize bookmarks between a copy of Firefox Portable and a standard desktop installation? I'd rather not have to manually open all my bookmarks and copy them over to Firefox Portable.

Xmarks requires an install...is there a portable answer?
Are you sure?
From what I have seen people do, you just need to register at their site, install the Firefox Addon and your good to go.

It does not require an install, I have 3 flash drives and a portable HDD all with portable firefox on them with their bookmarks synced via xmarks.

I don't use bookmarks in any browser anymore. I switched to storing them online ages ago and never looked back. Over the years my browsers have changed, bookmarks have been lost from OS upgrades/crashes/data corruption, so I got fed up with it all and just went 100% online.
There are plenty of free services to choose from, Simpy is currently my choice.
I've posted a little about here in this thread
Toss in IE8 Favorites syncing, and you really have a problem. If I could have Firefox's "Bookmarks" *replaced* by (NB: not *added* to) IE's Favorites, that would certainly make my day.
Again, one of the many reasons I don't bother with local bookmarks any more. Way too many issues to deal with.
Yes, BUT, would Simpy allow you to sync your IE8 "Links/Favorites Bar" Favorites submenu with Firefox's "Bookmarks" toolbar?
(Gosh, I tried to join Simpy in order to find out more about it, but it just woldn't let me (Go figure!): I keep getting this "Failed to execute this operation" error message!)
why would you need to? The whole point is to get away from browser bookmarks!
I don't really use the link/quick-launch/whatever bar except for a link to my router and shared network drive web administration interfaces. For the websites that I use most often of all, I've set up a simple web page that has a small HTML table on it with those most frequent links. I set this as my homepage, and now I never need to use browser bookmarks again... EVER. I guess it's not for everybody, but it works for me.
I'm not suggesting you have to use Simpy btw, there are plenty of other free alternatives (Netvouz.com is another one I've tried). Find the one that suits you best (or not :P).
