Hello, I am running Firefox Portable and trying to get Java to work. It works perfectly in Internet Explorer; I just prefer to use FF. Based on advice from other sites, I tried opening the control panel, going to Advanced, and checking the Mozilla Family option under Default Java for Browsers. But every time I click "Apply" and then "Okay" it seems to reset itself. In other words, every time I check to see that the option has been enabled, the Mozilla Family option is unticked. I've tried choosing the option several times, but it keeps resetting. I don't know if that's the only reason Java won't work, but it sure is frustrating! Any advice?

I am not currently having that problem on my work machine but I did in the past.
Still, Java worked, even though I could not get the tick to stay ticked.
On the machine I am on now, the home machine, Java is still "UNticked" for the Mozilla Family, but Java works so it must be something else.
What is your OS, version of FFP, and version of Java?
Are you sure Java is Enabled in FF? [it can be disabled]
Are you using any Add-ons/extensions that can disable or block Java? [like the NoScript extension]
Is the "Java won't work" manifesting itself in someway? [i.e., showing you something, a message, error, indication on the screen, etc]

I have the idem problem:
Have firefox installed on hd where the Java VM is installed
And Have Firefox on my usb drive where when conected, running for usb
the Java VM don't work
And the hd firefox run normally ...
Java is enabled on panel Preferences and persists in non work
