Live installer

The live installer re-installed the software when I upgraded from dev test 2 to dev test 3.

Is there any logic that can be used in this instance to avoid the second download?

It was supposed to

as they updated Foxit Reader yesterday so, on the plus side, you now have the latest version Smile I should have made that clearer in the upgrade notes. Sorry about that. Fixed now.

But no, I don't think there is a way to just upgrade the launcher without downloading the app (as the live installer format stands at the moment). An interesting question though.

Technically possible, IfFileExists-GetFileVersion-BlahBlahBlah etc. but probably easier to just "unplug the internet" temporarily, which will do the trick as this installer is set to preserve the app directory. But be careful, most aren't. I waffled on about it in more "depth" (LOL) here. I see somebody lost all their torrents today too Sad

Thanks

Thank you for the well-considered answer.

I wasn't beefing just to beef - it was a valid question. As I consider the question, though, it wasn't too smart.

It only matters if the installer changes without the base application changing... something that probably would not happen very often in real life. The logic and effort that would be expended to accommodate this wouldn't be worth the savings.

No problem, it's a perfectly

No problem, it's a perfectly reasonable question. Something I should have checked before replying though - there's a 'cancel' button on the download screen. I never thought of that Smile

You've got to laugh...

LOL

Much as I don't want to

Much as I don't want to resurrect this exchange (LOL), as we have a 'Cancel' button for the download in the event of a 'launcher only' installation, would it not be good to have something similar for the [CopyLocalFiles] scenario?

EDIT: Yes, I checked LOL

Interesting

So you mean you could rig the launcher to ask where the local files can be found (or are already installed)?

Archived or unarchived?

I meant so you could cancel

I meant so you could cancel the copying of the files if you just wanted to reinstall the launcher.

Archived or unarchived?

Eh? Are we off on one again? Smile
