Drum vst

I tried to just drop in a drum track vst into the ..\WavosaurPortable\Data\vstplugins directory, but it crashed when I tried to apply it. Smile I imagine there is some trick to portabilizing the vsts?

Edit:

Moved them to ..\WavosaurPortable\App\DefaultData\vstplugins and it doesn't crash. Doesn't work Smile just mutes the main audio, but it doesn't actually "place" the new vst.

Can get the portablized ones to work. Smile

(Ok, ok, ok... I may break down and un-compile the NSIS stuff and see how it works.) Biggrin

If you've already run the app

If you've already run the app and then put something in DefaultData it won't do anything. It'll just sit there until you delete your settings directory, then it'll be copied over into Data.

When you say 'drum track vst', what do you mean? Which one was it? Wavosaur is an audio editor so it's not going to trigger any sounds. We're talking reverb, delay, chorus, compression etc., stuff you can apply to a WAV file. No VST instruments Sad If you want to program drum tracks using MIDI, get REAPER Portable.

But you're right, portabalizing the plugs is a different question, althought there are some good, free, standalone ones. I would recommend the Kjaerhus Classic Series as a good place to start. GVST do some interesting stuff and there's also the REAPER plugs in the first post too. All portable and free.

Although, having said that, I've portabled (?) a lot of plugins by running VST Host with a launcher but I think we're on a different subject already Smile Drop another line if you need any more info.

Ahhh...

I was trying to figure out what the difference was between Reaper and Wavosaur. Smile

I'll also try the other links, too. (I tried several, but Drumatic 3.0 seemed the best recommended.)

I do use Audacity, but that may be because I started using it years ago. Kinda like Blender, once you get used to it, it isn't a big deal. (It is just different from everything else.) Smile

OK, you'll need something

OK, you'll need something like REAPER for Drumatic.

The links I posted weren't for drum VSTs specifically. If you're looking for drums, try here. I'm not vouching for the portability of any of them though Smile

If you want something simpler than REAPER, try MU.LAB Free. It's limited to six tracks but it's portable out of the box. If you try it and like it let me know and I'll do a PAF installer/launcher for it.

Thanks for the link! That mu.lab is pretty rough! Smile Not that big of a deal, but this machine I'm on doesn't have an ASIO driver, that apparently it wants.

Have tried Reaper. I think I just need to learn it a bit more - some of the FX work, but some don't. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Keep up the good work at portablizing these things! (If you find a non-linear video editor, count me as +1 for making one of those portable!) Wink

LOL

That mu.lab is pretty rough!

Have you tried installing ASIO4ALL? Works great with generic soundcards.

EDIT: Check the REAPER help file for a link to the manual Smile

Thanks!

Cool link on that ASIO4all. Alas, it didn't immediately work, but I haven't had a chance to do much digging on it.

Was going through the Reaper manual (rare that my eyes fall onto a manual) Wink and it looks like my issues can be overcome. Since some fx work, but others don't, I suspect it is a settings issue.

Thanks for all your work!

Audacity

Is this different from or better than Audacity? There's only so many sound editors one could want/need. Smile

It'll do much the same.

It'll do much the same. Personally, I prefer Wavosaur. I don't know what it is about Audacity that I don't like. Probably that I have to spend too long trying to figure out how to do anything LOL. Wavosaur seemed a bit more familiar straight off. For me anyway Smile

Audacity

The toolbar buttons always looked like they were designed by Fisher Price. I honestly don't use it that much so I guess I'm not the best to comment but I was just curious.

MuLab

You mentioned above that you could do a wrapper for MuLab, I recently bought the Unlimited version and would love it if you could add this to the PortableApps repertoire! Smile

Thanks

Oh yes indeedy:!

Yes please if you don't mind doing it. Would this be able to install latest test version? Or is that something that requires dev's permission? I'll post and ask them if you like.

Thanks

Scott

I did it as an online installer

I did it as an online installer for the 32 bit version. Are there others available? I'll upload it over the next couple of days.

WOW... that was quick!

Yes there's a 64bit version. Could the PA Launcher start te appropriate version depending on the OS, 32 or 64bit? Or is that not possible?

Thanks for that, very much appreciated. Do you need the dev's permission for this though? I suppose this isn't possible to becoming an official release is it, I mean due to it not being OS/freeware?

Hi prapper, I hope you don't

Hi prapper,

I hope you don't mind me asking but I requested on the Wavosaur forum if either permission could be given or the dev made a PALauncher for Wavosaur.

Their reply was that permission would not be given on the forum, which I can understand. But they gave an email address to discuss further if you are interested. I emailed them just to acknowledge them and explain that you are the best one to explain how things work.
