simple photo editing software

Dear Sirs,

I would like to request a simple photo editing software.
I know you already have GIMP, but I think it's too complicated for me who usually use photo editing software only to resize, crop, straighten photos; modify the brightness, focus, color, etc.; only for simple modification.
I used to use Photoimpact, but it's quite heavy for my computer at home, and I only use the simple tools there.
Thank you for your great work. I really appreciate everybody who spare time to make free applications.

Regards,
Renny

HI

and welcome here Smile

Maybe JpegView is something in that direction. If you need a better tool, you are more than welcome to suggest one. Maybe there is someone willing to make it portable.

FastStone Image Viewer
IrfanView (Portable)*
Picasa (Portable)**
PicPick (Portable)
XnView (Portable)***

* Unsure of how current IrfanView Portable is or its adherence to PAF specification.

** Picasa Portable is currently outdated and has a number of bugs. Development has stalled for some time though is reportedly ongoing.

*** XnView Portable is currently outdated and does not adhere to the current to the PAF specification. However an updated portable version has been reported as coming soon.

XnView

XnView is my choice, and in my experience, it "just works" out of the zip download from the official site. I'm using the latest version on my flash drive, but I don't have a limited Windows account to test it on.

I'm searching the Registry on the computer I'm on now (at work) and I'm seeing references to XnView.exe in OpenWithList entries, not sure if that's something official PAF releases look to clean up after or not (along with MRU lists). Looks like the OpenWithList entries are the only hits, under .bmp, .gif, and .jpg. Then afain, firefox.exe is also in the OpenWithList entry, and this computer doesn't have Firefox installed. Of course, Firefox is running, so it wouldn't have cleaned that up... Still, I'm sure XnView works fine without PAF, until the official PAF version comes out.

I think your right about it's

I think your right about it's portability. However I strongly prefer a PAF version as I found that the ZIP version doesn't work properly with CAFE MOD where as SmithTech's did. I'm not sure how it would go with Portable File Associator, which is more up to date, as I can't work it out.

I think the portable version would benefit from it opening X:\Documents\Pictures folder by default when open on it's own (not through an association) where as SmithTech's currently open XnViews own folder.

Oh, I don't use portable file association. Always been curious about it but don't really need it.

My XnView opens the last folder most of the time, which is X:\Documents\Pictures or a subfolder, most of the time, but I'm sure it doesn't have drive letter portability right out of the box as the PAF version should.

IrfanView rocks

I have to give a supporting thumbs up for IrfanView, been using it for years. As far as I know it's portable. It will mess with the registry if you start setting up file associations and stuff but I don't think it leaves any data/files behind otherwise.

Thanks, zkee

I hadn't heard of those.
I also like Artweaver, which also has some nice effects.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Suggestion

XnView Portable

To my knowledge, XnView performs all the same functions that FastStone Image Viewer does. I prefer XnView but even if you prefer FastStone Image Viewer XnView should make a nice substitute until a portable version becomes available.

Hope that helps Smile
