Is this possible? I'd like to ensure that my USB copy of OpenOffice has all the fonts I use for my docs.

PS I'm eager to upgrade to oOo 2.0.3, also - lotsa bug fixes in there.

It's in the openoffice/share/fonts/truetype. In Portable OpenOffice.org, that's in the PortableOpenOffice directory. In the pre-release of 2.0.3, it's in the OpenOfficePortable\App directory.
The sooner you and everybody else give the 2.0.3 pre-release a full workout (especially the new features), the sooner the final is released. It was released over a week ago in the beta forum.

but have not been able to get this to work. I have tried both opentype and truetype fonts but they don't seem to show up in the fonts list. Am i suppose to change a setting or something?
I've also tried making sure that fonts have no restricions on them by editing the fonts through FontLab, but no luck.
Note: did some searching on the web n it says that you need to use "spadmin" funciton in OOo to add fonts... Not sure if its applicable to OOo Portable, but i can't seem to find it or access it. See spadmin
Plus I've checked under "paths" in OOo options and there is no font directory path, though i'm not sure it there is suppose to be...
From http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Font-FAQ
How do I add fonts to OpenOffice.org 2 exclusively
There are two choices: Either for all users of OOo or only for one single user. If you intend to add the fonts...
for all users of OOo (but only within OOo, put the fonts into the directory
only for one single user of OOo, put the fonts into the directory
Instead of moving around the fonts manually, you can as well use the Printer Administration tool "spadmin" to install the fonts. If you cannot find a "OpenOffice.org Printer Administration" launcher in your desktop's menu, you can lauch it manually by executing
I can't test this ATM, running Knoppix away from home.

but still can't get it to work. The spadmin folder is non existant.
Can anyone report on getting this to work.
Those directories are for a local install. You need to adapt them for a portable one. You need to create the directories yourself, they do not exist by default because OO doesn't normally include fonts. I use the all-user option to include the OpenSymbol font for the math editor. You'll find that right where I said it was... within PortableOpenOffice\openoffice\share\fonts\truetype. You can add your own fonts there. You can also add them to PortableOpenOffice\settings\user\fonts\truetype (you'll need to create this directory).
Please try it again and post back with exactly what you tried.

The directorys you have stated above i think is for the older verison (ie. PortableOpenOffice\openoffice\share\fonts), however i've adapted this to the new structure of OOo 2.03. The folders i've placed the fonts in are as follows:
Tried the all-user directory:
R:\PortableAPPS\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts\truetype
(This is where i find opens___.ttf font)
and also tried this:
R:\PortableAPPS\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts
Plus i've tried the single user too:
R:\PortableAPPS\OpenOfficePortable\Data\settings\user\fonts
Can't for the life of me work out what i'm doing wrong. I've also tried to a completely fresh install of OOo 2.03 to see if i've changed something, but same result. I can't even get the opens___.ttf font to come up on my fonts in OOo. I've tried this on three systems too.
Add truetype to the other two. Note that this only supports truetype fonts.

as i mentioned earlier, i've tried both truetype and open type but hav had no success. maybe its just not meant to be.
Any other ideas to try most welcome.
i would really like to get this to work.
BTW: i'm running
P4 3.2
Windows XP sp2
Sandisc Titanium 2gb

I am having the exact same problem that twnty3svn has.
I've installed truetype (*.ttf) fonts in all of the following directories, to no avail.
F:\Applications\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts
F:\Applications\OpenOfficePortable\App\openoffice\share\fonts\truetype
F:\Applications\OpenOfficePortable\Data\settings\user\fonts
F:\Applications\OpenOfficePortable\Data\settings\user\fonts\truetype
Are you running linux or windows?
See here if you are running Windows

Over a week, you say? How could I have missed it
Thanks, didn't know about the beta forum. Keep up the great work!

Can you do this in Windows using oOo? Instructions appear to say only in UNIX.
It works for me using Simply MEPIS Linux but not Win XP
Usually use Extensis Suitcase to temp load fonts.
Looking at freeware fontloader at http://www.moonsoftware.com/freeware.asp It allows you to temp load groups of fonts.
It needs one registry entry to save the loacation of font folders. Have downloaded regwrapper but have not tried to use it yet.

but have yet to try out on non Admin machine, thanks for the tip jeb5000.
For those of you would like the AppFolder including launcher down load from here: FontLoader Portable
- You can download the app from here: Fontloader App
- Install it, then copy the folder from the install location, usually 'C:\Program Files\FontLoader\'
- Drop the contents of the folder into the Portable App directory under 'FontLoader Portable\FontLoader Portable\App', (you do not need to copy the txt files, or unstall info)
- Copy any font folders into 'FontLoader Portable\Data\Profile\Fonts\'
- Then Finally uninstall the program.
BTW: you might want to do a quick scan of regedit and search for "moonedit" and "fontloader" before running FontLoader Portable, just to make sure all entries were deleted.
Let me know how you go, and if you have any problems with Admin rights.
Cheers
