WSCC Portable

WSCC Homepage

Its a suite with all nirsoft and sysinternal utilities.

The best thing is a built in update manager which checks the authors pages for updates.

They even advertise a fully portable paf.exe installer! Smile

(They have a normal and U3 download too but who cares about them? :P)

I think this would be a nice inclusion here. I tried it and it fully portable. Its not too good regarding to paf compliance though. They put all sysinternal/nirsoft apps into the Data folder. But they save their dat/cache there too so its no big deal I think.

What do you think?

nice in paf format

it seems that he paf format is getting to be accepted by 'outside world'.

The paf version seems to be using the propper paf installer and format. OK, some of the links inside the list of avaiable software seem not to be correct, the expected software was not found with link, but otherwise nice thing.

Never in Data

They should never be putting them in Data. They should have them in App with Preserve(File|Directory)N entries to make they won't get deleted on reinstall/upgrade via the PortableApps.com Installer. Try contacting them about it and tell them that they must, must, must fix that as it means that they're not following the PortableApps.com specification Biggrin (completely true). If they fix that, I reckon it'd be a very good thing to have here.

Fix

And would fixing it and uploading here be considered bad form?

Who?

Uh... I'm not sure who you mean.

Sure you could do it, but then every time they changed something, you'd have to re-do the installer, etc.

If they did it themselves, then they get the headlines and the headaches.

good idea Chris

I just sent them an email about it. Lets see what happens.

wsccportable.paf NOT really portable

I tried wsccportable.paf (WSCC 2.1.1.0 version ); it's not portable with Sysinternals apps (I tried with processexplorer on Win7SP1 64bit); here the added register keys (every key has many entries):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer\DllColumnMap\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer\DllColumns\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer\HandleColumnMap\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\Process Explorer\HandleColumns\

Good Idea

To include WSCC would be a great enhancement. But I see to problems that must be solved first:
1) Seems that some (mostly MS) of the included pgms are inserting registry-keys (leaving traces on the computer)
2) All virus- and malware-scanners I tried they sound the alarm about many of Nir Sofer's programs (PUP - possibly unwanted program) - of course they do not contain any virus or malware. But just the possibility to recover a password triggers the alarm.
