Drop IT

http://sourceforge.net/projects/dropit/

It is a great application that I would love to see in the PA.com Format. I can't seem to get it to work they way I want to and have it drop all the files in the correct spots =\
The few files I dropped I can't fine anymore. It might help you to know that I was trying to use relative paths...but I guess this lil app does not support those. That would be a great addition of some sort.
It does not seem to hard considering it already has a portable version and its open source. All someone would need to do (I may be niave) is make a launcher (btw, some launchers stay open after they launch the app that shouldn't be open, not all but some dnot need to be) and then edit the source to support relative paths (which is probably harder than I realize). I am no coder or I would do it myself. I love coding and all of that but I can't seem to find the time that I am willing to sacrifice quite yet.

You bring up a few good points:

some launchers stay open after they launch the app that shouldn't be open, not all but some dnot need to be

Which ones? AFAIK, they stay open because they have work to do after the app closes.

edit the source...

John said something about not editing the source... I think it was something about deployment issues...

support relative paths (which is probably harder than I realize)

Oh, it is... so hard that most of the launchers don't even do it. Most of the launchers do something called dynamic drive compensation where they replace the old drive letter with the new one, which is really easy to implement but pretty bad when you run them locally.
I'll take a hand at it if nobody else will. ETA: March.

Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.

relative paths

Biggrin i just found out it does in fact all ready support relative paths so all it really needs is the PAF format and your gold (i believe)
you might want to do a reg check or something.

Also, a lot of the apps here leave folders and files behind Sad
Songbird leaves a folder in C:\Documents and Settings\WAJM\Application Data
skype in the same spot
A lot of them do back ups =\ i think i should control when that happens.
Gimp portable leaves its folders in my documentsa and appdata as well. Also, one of gimp portable's features isnt working: when u right click on a brush, try some of the options. I can't remember which one, but one of them will not work because the path its looking for the brushes in is wrong. I made a post about it already I beleive and I will get a link up if your interested.
I think people should be warned that not all add ons will work protably with portable firefox as they themselves are not portable.
I can't think of much else.
I'm a stealth purist, I want to go on and off and leave NOTHING behind. I care about other peoples computers and if anything is left behind, it bothers me as it is just mess that they will have to deal with. Plus I leave around computer fail people who will just go nuts if they see something they don't understand. Like a folder that says "songbird" or "gegl-0.0"
Wink if there is anything that can be done to fix thoughs, I would be incredibly happy.

Slightly off topic, but

The gegl-0.0 issue is known and fixed, see https://portableapps.com/node/19399 scroll down to FIX 2 for an updated launcher that will be part of the next release, but is usable now.

For the other apps that you're seeing these problems with, please search to check that they aren't being discussed already, and if not, raise a separate post for each in the appropriate forums so it can be looked into and corrected.

You are quite correct that portable apps shouldn't be leaving folders behind, but sometimes it works for 90+% of people, and without the other 10-% talking to the devs to explain the issue, noone knows it is happening.
