Portable Apps HD Partition Backup

I successfully 'backuped' PA from the USB stick. However, when I tried to backup PA installation on the HD partition D\Portable\, the backup utility tried to backup the entire partition and reported a failure. Anybody had this experience? Is backup utility really supposed to work this way (which is unlikely)?

Drive

Drive means drive. Even if you have PA.c installed to a subdirectory, "Backup entire drive" means backup the entire drive.

Portable Apps HD Backup

I am sorry if I didn't make my question clear. I understand that a drive is a drive.

I was not sure what was the intended function of the built-in backup utility - to backup ONLY the folders created with the original installation of the Portable Applications Suite (that's what I would expect) or to to backup the entire drive on which this suite is installed.

If the latter is the case, I find it too rigid. It would be more reasonable to give a user a choice what to backup (with the Portableapps folders being a default). Would you recommend to use Portableapps built-in utility for HD backup or a more sophisticated program should be used (as I would think)? Thank you.

Hm

Right now it has 3 modes which is sufficient for me. I often use the "Data only" option because its the fastest. Documents is good for backing up the rest I have inside my portable environment. Maybe that would be the best thing for you.
And then we have drive which is the whole thing.

I only back up my flash drive but I guess that for a whole HDD (lots more space/files), an advanced backup utility is needed.

Thank you. Somehow, My software jumped over the options page and started to backup the whole partition with cancel button disabled. Eventually, the process failed. My partition is not that big - 12 GB.

As I said, my sense is that this backup should default to something less that the entire drive/partition... It's good to have this option though.

no default

There is no default.
It lets you choose one of 3 options.

Have you tried Toucan

https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/toucan
In the description, it says:
"Toucan is a small utility allowing you to synchronise, backup and secure your data with more options than the built in suite utilities."

Personally, I agree with you, the built-in Backup is too rigid for my own practical use.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
