I had hoped that FF Portable runs independently of FF Fixed, but I get
Another instance of Firefox is already running. Please close other
instances of Firefox before launching Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.
I need other instances. Any workaround? Thanks.

Read the readme.txt in the FirefoxPortable\Other\Source directory. (It's also linked to from within the FirefoxPortable\help.html file) There is a setting, it has some issues, it's due to Firefox itself (which is designed NOT to allow multiple instances)
