When I do a update using Firefox on my external hard drive, Firefox does not restart after it installs it. Is this a bug in the launcher?

You mean when you let Firefox auto-update itself from Mozilla's servers? That should just work in all cases since there's an unaltered copy of Firefox within it. What version of Firefox and what version of the launcher (FirefoxPortable.exe) do you have?

Well it updates and installs but Firefox doesn't restart itself after it installs the update.
I'm running the latest nightly of Firefox 2.0. But it has been happening for a while now and it only happens on my external hard drive (which is the only USB device that I can test on)
BuildID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1b2) Gecko/20060911 BonEcho/2.0b2 ID:2006091104
Not sure if you know how to read that John.
FirefoxPortable.exe v1.2.2.3
Yeah, the nightly updater isn't a standard Mozilla update process. Not sure how it works, myself. So, it's not supported in a portable install. Only the major releases are tested (Alphas and Betas) and packaged for release. Nightlies are just that... nightly test builds. While they *should* work portably, there's no guarantee they will.

I've always had to start FxP (and PTB) myself after an update, and I've been using the most recent launchers and stable releases of Fx and TB.
