When PortableApps.com Installer 1.0.1 came out, there was a little discussion about renaming it... hopefully nobody gets upset, but I'd like to resurrect that discussion.
IMHO, "PortableApps.com Bundler" would be a better name for the installer; at least to me, "Bundler" sounds more like what the app actually does: bundles an appropriately-formatted file & folder structure into a PA.c installer.
Just my 2¢ worth...
Keep up the good work!
I don't like the sound of it. It's an installer creator... it literally creates a full-on installer from some simple INI configs. It doesn't just bundle things like a self-extractor. If anything, it would be PortableApps.com Installer System (like NSIS). Or PortableApps.com Installer Creator. Or PortableApps.com Installer Wizard.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Although the name seems long, it does make things a little easier to understand, and it translates better into other languages better. (As in - if English is not your native tongue, the words installer and creator together tend to translate into meaningful words.)
Besides, to me bundler does sound like something commercial computer hardware vendors do! (Names omitted to protect the guilty.)
I do agree that just installer is to confusing though, that is a very valid point. I would like to see it changed also.
I used to sign here, but the ink keeps smudging on my screen.
I see what you're saying about "Bundler"... I vote for Installer Creator then. That sounds good...
"The question I would like to know, is the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. All we know about it is that the Answer is Forty-two, which is a little aggravating."
Installer creator does seem to make more sense, but there will still be people thinking that they can use it to create an installer of any random app...
As John said here, you can't eliminate confusion.
