I'm doing this as a blog post because I can use full HTML :) Recently, I discovered Firefox Personas. Because I have next to no life, I decided to make a Firefox Persona for PortableApps.com. Here's a mockup of what I got done:
What you need to do to get this working:
- Download and install Firefox Personas
- Download these images:
- Enable Custom Personas
- Set them as header and footer in the custom persona
- Enjoy.
Before a mod shoots me on the image copyright, I received permission from John in IRC.
What I'd like is comments. Please not that the colors are different because I'm using a custom made gradient. John, if I could get a copy of the original, I'd be thrilled.
Consider it a early Christmas Present from me, to you.

Too tall
In my opinion, it's far too tall and the gradient is too stretched. You can't count on the user having a height of four bars (menu, navigation, bookmarks, tabs) at the top, most of the people that I know the Firefox configurations of tend to disable the bookmarks bar and often (like me) merge the navigation bar into the menu bar (and even hide some of the buttons), and so people who work with it like I do won't even see down to the end of the gloss bit in the gradient... problem is it's hard to fix up.
I reckon the footer would be better a bit more reddish and darker too - possibly just flipping it upside down would do that, but I haven't tried it.
I've tried Personas a few times and each time I've come back to the default theme with Personas off. They just don't look right. I think, though, that this is about the best I've seen - you've done it very nicely. (Subtlety is something missing from most personae I think. This one is not "glary", which my eyes think is good.)
In my opinion, it's far too
Default Install. Well, default portable. Those people probably won't use personas.
Yeah. Its a problem with the gradient. I'm going to try to redo it today, maybe. But I don't know if it will work. I'm hoping John will send me a copy of the gradient he's using. When I had it flipped, I thought it was too red.
I usually use RedShift But I put personas on my server's install of firefox. I t hought they were kinda neat.
Thanks for the complement.
I like it :)
It's pretty good, better than anything I could have made...
I think that there may be a little too much white in there though...if you could get the original gradient that would be better, and it would follow the theme better
I presume you will be submitting it eventually to make it official
Thanks
It's nice, and I didn't know you could do custom ones like this.
I like that it's more of a wine color, less off-putting to me than if it were PA red.
What is the accent color?
Regarding not liking Personas (Chris) there are some very classy ones out there. You just gotta find one that fits your setup. Of course they're not for everyone, but it's like going from Windows 2000 to Windows 7. Most geeks will agree that Win2k doesn't need visual styles, but I think those who think Windows 7's visual improvements over XP and especially 2k are completely worthless are a minority. Same thing. Again, I wish I could link my favorites (without posting my login/pass) as I've chosen some good ones. I could just manually link to all of them, but it'd take some work.
What is the accent
Hmm? Its just a gradient I made in the GIMP. I then stuck the logo under a copy of the layer and made that partially transparent.
Thanks. Now that you mentioned it, it does seem to be a bit easier on the eyes. Thanks for the compliment.
Yes...
Yes. YES. YESSSSSSSSSS!
You win 30 gigabajillion internets my friend.
Looks awesome
Looks really good in my firefox portable!
submit it to mozilla
why don't you submit it to mozilla? now with personas ebedded in firefox 3.6 it would be nice if this theme appeared in the gallery, without the user needing to install personas plus
