help! When I start StartPorableApps.e.xe on Windows7 then the window appears, but after the first click inside the window the choosed application starts and the window disappears. It also disappears when I click somewhere else. How can I get it permanent on desktop just als for example PStart?

I found 2 different versions of PortableAppsMenu.ini and added in both, but there was no change, it disappears.
You'll have to close the platform before editing. After editing just restart the platform.
I did so, the platform-window wasn`t on screen.
no PortableApps logo in the system tray anymore?

I got it: the failure was, the platform wasn't really closed, I could find it under "ausgeblendete Symbole" in the right-down corner. After having stopped the platform and restarted it works now fine.

I am having the same problem -- the menu disappears after I use it once, or after clicking on something else. I am not a techie, and I can't find any .ini file in any obvious place. I have loaded the suite onto my c: drive, and have placed a shortcut to my start menu, and to my desktop, which is great, but then there is no icon or persistent menu to go to once I've clicked on an application. actually,I don't think an icon ever appears on my bottom icon bar. Please -- in very simple, step by step terms, how do I find the files to change, and how do I change them? thanks very very much.

It's in your system tray in the lower right corner of the screen. It's a small icon of the portableapps.com logo (the same as the logo in the upper left corned of this page). It may be hidden by an arrow to expand your system tray icons. On Windows 7, it will be hidden by an up arrow to show your system tray icons.

Adding to what John said about Win7 and the SysTray, right click on an open area of the tray that isn't and icon and select "Customize notification icons" or bring up the Control Panel and select "Taskbar and Start Menu" then hit the "Customize" button. In the menu that comes up is a list of programs that have icons that appear in the SysTray. Going from memory, the default is "Only show notifications". Change that to "Show icon and notifications" for the PortableApps icon entry and you should now see the icon in the Systray whenever it's running. That setting also puts the icon in the Systray itself and not in the extended part where you have to hit the arrow to see it (the "hidden icons" section).

The ability to always show applies to the 2.0 Beta 3 release and later only. This keeps a consistent tooltip, which is what Windows uses to keep track of what notification icons have been customized.

I just customized the latest Platform v1.5.2 icon to stay visible in the Notification Area (new name for the Systray in Win7 I just learned) via the method I posted. A tooltip had nothing to do with it so I don't know what you're talking about. :shrugs:

Internally in Windows it uses the name of the icon to keep track. In 1.5.x, the name of the icon changes and includes the space available and total. As this changes, Windows thinks it is a different icon and forgets and customizations made to it (example: always show or always hide). This affects XP and Vista, not sure about Win 7.
This is the reason the current beta ditches showing the space available and total as part of the icon (and it's tooltip).

There's a quicker way: Just drag the icon out of the overflow area into the tray. Win7 fully supports drag-and-drop in the system tray.
Look at you get all fancy with the drag-n-drop.

Taskbar Shuffle is supposed to provide drag-'n'-drop support for the tray in Windows XP, too. I don't use TBS, so I can't say for certain...
