Application: GNU IceCat
Category: Internet
Description: The GNUzilla Project is the GNU version of Mozilla source code. All proprietary software has been removed.
The current focus is on GNU IceCat, our browser derived from Mozilla Firefox.
GNUzilla keeps the original tri-license used by Mozilla to facilitate the reuse of code.
keep in mind this is the first windows binary of GNU IceCat some bugs are extremly minor like the about box not showing properly, please don't report about the about box
Download not available due to the fact I don't have enough time to compile icecat on windows anymore and the second reason is that my main app (that I support and work on) PChat is taken precedence on my list
Release Notes:
Development Test 1 (2009/29/09):
- initial release
Shouldn't this just be GNU IceCat Portable?
The whole reason for the overly-verbose "Portable Edition" qualifier on Firefox was due to Mozilla's trademark policies. Those policies are exactly why IceCat exists in the first place. It therefore strikes me as a bit ironic that you'd use the same nomenclature here...
but it looks cooler this way :P, anyways I'll change it as soon as I get more word from the icecat mailing list.
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
I was always wondering about that. I guess I can remove "Google Chrome, Portable Edition" from my launcher then lol. Based it off of Firefox's.
Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.
actually the Portable Edition was to comply to trademarks so in your case I would keep it if I were you unless John says otherwise.

I get this message when I go try to look at the about IceCat tab
XML Parsing Error: undefined entity
Location: chrome://browser/content/aboutDialog.xul
Line Number 38, Column 9: &logoCopyright;
--------^
please read the topic, I did say "please don't report about the about box", thanks to another user this has been fixed and will be applied in the next release
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
I'm going to stuff your head in a toilet
lol, joking. BTW, is this using your custom source or a modified version of John's launcher?
slightly modified Firefox Portable Launcher, I got to do some more stuff like atm GNU IceCat doesn't touch the registry at all so I'm going to remove the registry functions from the source launcher comment the code of what I changed as well. I'm also on the IceCat Mailing list asking questions etc about icecat how my build for windows could be improved too.
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
Oh sweet, no registry?
I love linux ports
Ditto
Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.
Here's a fix for the about box. Place it in App\IceCat\chrome, and it should work.
Disclaimer: All I did was delete one line from the file that was causing problems. If something breaks, I'm not responsible

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
I'll add it in dev test 2

I went to your homepage today and saw -=[ Hacked by Avengers Team ]=- in the tittle.

"The shell is the key to unlock Linux's greatest advantages."
Zach might not actually have been hacked.
zachthibeau.com was hacked, www.zachthibeau.com wasn't. Zach, which is yours?
btw, for those who aren't running NoScript or a similar browser lockdown - stay away until we hear back from Zach. If he's been hacked, it's possible the hacker team left some drive-by virus garbage on his page.
These guys are clearly a genuine black-hat hacker team, as can be seen from a message on another site they've hacked (hxxp://timpani-boutique.com/index.php?osCsid=279fa061a60e8ad8eee21886b30901e4 - visit at your own risk. Link protocol has been obfuscated for security.)
Hope these guys haven't gotten to Zach, that would be impressively bad...

Hey computerfreaker,
Should you not disable the link, just in case?

A suspicious link to a known malicious site and an embeded flash video --> doesn't look too good...

To ALL, this is NOT Zach's, his redirects to: partnerpage.google.com/zachthibeau.com, which seems to be ok...still, be careful.EDIT:Interestingly, I have just noticed that his PA stuff is located on hXXp://zachthibeau.com/ so I am still not sure on this one...

I'm pretty sure the working google page is not actually zach's website, so I think we have to conclude he is indeed hacked. Although I can't think of any reason why anyone would want to hack him but w/e

Money...Many 'legitimate sites' are becoming hacked to distribute malware

Wow spgSCOTT, that was really a credible independent source you came up with there ..
Anyway, Iceweasel Portable is great news,
for one it makes it possible to distribute a pre-configured browser ..
Were you being funny there?
If you follow the link in the thread, you will find it is from a report from Sophos...
Just because you 'know' it to be a safe site, doesn't mean it will always be clean...
You're right though, lets stop hijacking the thread...

sorry guys, seems alot of my domains were targeted remotely by some hackers, I found out what they did and I'm working on restoring the domain.
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
It's not your fault...this happens to many people daily...
Good luck with the cleanup, if it helps, this is what I usually post to site owners who have been hacked. The quote from DavdR may be quite helpful to you.

Gnu IceCat 3.5.7 has been released, I'll compile it and post dev test 2
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
If it's a new version, it starts over from Dev Test 1 again. Dev Test is like a release candidate, you only increment the DT number when you're releasing a new test of the same base app version.
Nothing changed in functionality, just some bugs fixed thats all, in my books not worth starting back at dev test 1
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
If the download link wasn't broken, I would really like to try this as IceCat is a more secure browser than FireFox out of the box. I always wished that some one would make it for windows so this has to be awesome if I could download it would be better, Best regards.
"If it isn't broke don't fix it"
well for one thing I'm not maintaining the windows build for Ice Cat anymore and secondly icecat is no more secure than a standard firefox build just fyi
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
Hi, I know that's abandoned and today non-secure,but I want to have that browser for Windows in my collection.Do anyone has it?
Please send to me on email perestroika (at) gmx.us
Regards
IceCat on Windows is long dead and no longer built. Even IceCat itself should NOT be used as it always lags Firefox. IceCat for Linux is only at 24.0. Which means it has all the bugs and is vulnerable to all the security issues patched in Firefox 24.1, 24.1.1, 25.0, 25.0.1, and 26.0. In short, IceCat is horribly insecure and no one should be using it on any platform any more. There's no reason to have it.
If you want it for testing anything, just grab an old copy of Firefox from around that time from our SourceForge project.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
