K-lite mega codec pack:
1) It is totally open source
2) Up to date
3) Already includes a portable Media Player Classic
4) Just needs the codecs to be portoble
4a) or integrate codecs with already portable media player classic
5) The mega package already has quicktime alternative and realplayer alternative>>>> BOTH OPEN SOURCE!!!!!

K-Lite Codec Pack isn't freeware and it is too complex to make it portable since it needs to "bind" codecs with operating system - so no way here unless you wanna try

VLC is much better. also plays everything and doesnt need codecs. plus its already a portable app
actually VLC doesn't play all files - like RMVB format
plus VLS need codecs but uses built-in codecs (or from plugins)
but yeah it's already portable
