I'm getting a new PC soon and I'm not sure whether I should get 32 or 64 bit Windows 7. Right now I'm very happy with my portable apps on 32 bit XP. Can I expect to get the same smooth experience on 64 bit Windows 7?

AFAIK, 64-bit OSes also run 32-bit apps.
No matter what it's going to be faster.

32-bit apps run slower and consume more memory on 64-bit Windows than they do on 32-bit Windows on the exact same hardware.
But yes, all our stuff works on 64-bit Windows.

This is the part where I make the excuse that I was referring to Windows 7... }:)

I've been using PortableApps for a couple of years and have been very happy with it.
Recently I got a 64 bit laptop with Windows 7 thinking that PortableApps policy that programs must be able to run on all PCs.
I have found that some features of some programs causes my operating system to freeze.
I have had to turn off some features or opt not to use those programs.
A couple of examples are Thunderbird and Skype.
So no, all stuff does NOT work on 64-bit Windows.
My next computer will be 64-bit.
To the OP, compare prices before making a decision. I recommend 64-bit unless you have a real need for 32-bit.

Works fine for everything that I've found. I was hesitant to make the jump from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Win7 Ultimate. I have made the jump and not found one program that doesn't run faster, or smoother than it did on XP. Plus everything I used, still works. Including all my PA.c applications.
