Bookmarks gone! after install from 3.5.7 to 3.6

After upgrading Firefox Portable to 3.6 from your site (I previously had 3.5.7)I found that all my bookmarks are gone. I tried restoring with FEBE but when I choose the .json file I receive an error msg that it is not valid. I tried a backup from a different date but received the same error.
Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose the priority is

I suppose the priority is getting all the bookmarks back?

Well I suggest installing back 3.5.7 (different dir would do), make copy of the profile (or at least places.sqlite) and they should load in there (at least from JSON).

Why FEBE (I don't use it myself) when You can use:
Bookmarks -> Organize.. -> Import and Backup -> Restore -> Chose a file

Take a note that You can also use old fashion way that is import/export as HTML file. Some information is lost in the process (tags).

Even better...

is Xmarks, a Firefox extension:
http://www.xmarks.com/

It backs up your bookmarks (and passwords, if you want it to) online, so you can use them online and can transfer them to other browsers and Firefox, in case your profile becomes corrupted or is deleted.

Cheers!

Re: Bookmarks gone! after install from 3.5.7 to 3.6

Same problem. Except not only lost all bookmarks and history, but could not create new bookmarks. Firefox complains that it could not load the file profile.sqlite. Mozilla blames it on norton 360, but I ain't running that; and disabling my AVG didn't resolve it either.

I finally gave up and uninstalled FirefoxPortable completely, and installed a full version of Firefox 3.6 on my SDHC card. At least I can create new bookmarks now...

That's too bad...

I made the transition from 3.5.7 to 3.6 with no trouble at all, except for having to make some extensions compatible.

Where did you find that information, "Mozilla blames it on norton 360"? Did you try the new Multiple Profiles with your portable version? Some people throw in the towel awfully easily, when it might be better to look for a fix. You might have experienced some sort of incompatibility that would help other people to know about.

And by the way, Firefox from PortableApps *IS* "the full version" just packaged so it doesn't install anything on your computer.

Cheers!

Yes, FEBE also backs up Extensions

Someone in the thread asked asked why use the Firefox backup extension "FEBE." One reason is that in addition to bookmarks backup, FEBE can also back up all your firefox extensions.

It backs up as separate "xpi" files that you can drag & drop into a new install (without re-downloading or even finding the proper author page web sites). Of course you can use out of date xpi and then just let firefox do an update of all entensions.

FEBE can also make a list in html of the extension names including hot links to the author's web pages.

That list is a good reminder for many of us if we ever want to repopulate a "clean install" of Firefox. Like, Firefox has a bunch of "print" extensions, but trying remember or determine which one was your favorite can be a BIG time waster.

ps. Also a good idea to list your other extension heavy apps, too. Maybe OpenOffice, for example (where I have 18 extensions, 13 or so I use often and 5 of which I could find by memory. I don't know of any tool for OOo though.)
