I have portable thunderbird and firefox installed. When I click on a link in an email, it opens in firefox, but that instance of firefox does not use my normal settings (customized toolbar, history settings, ad-block, etc.)
Is there a way to fix that?

It has two features, it can turn the Thunderbird message window into a web browser or you can disable that feature and just tell it to use FFP to open links. The setup portion after you install the add-on will guide you through that process.

and it doesn't require any add-ons/extensions.
I am not prompted for an application to use,
It just says that it will use IE
I am using TBP2.0.0.23
Will this not work in TB2 ?

This is a TB3-only feature.

I was a TB3 holdout but took the plunge a while back. It's a worthwhile update. Everything works as expected as do Lightning with the Provider for Google Calendar (better than in TB2) and a few of my other extensions.
