Hello!
I really need a portable and preferably compact server, Perl and possibly a mysql client. I'm no techie, I just need to run some Perl/CGI scripts on my PC (some of them use mysql so I guess I'll need that as well).
Now I've looked over XAMPP but it's quite huge and seems to contain all kinds of features I don't really need.
So any recommendations for something smaller would be really welcomed!
Thank you!
PS. I'm on Win 7, 64bit if that is of any importance.
Try uniformserver. It is a really nice portable server with MySQL, apache, perl, and more. www.uniformserver.com

OK. Thanks! It seems very nice - I'll try it out and write back!
Been toying around with it for a little while today and got it to work... so far so good - pretty nice and simple ... just what I need for a beginner user like me!
Thanks!
Take a look here as well:

Thanks for the list! But for someone as inexperienced as I am it is better to get recommendations from people who have actually used any of them and have some impressions... and besides I have some pretty basic needs. I first wanted to use XAMPP but it is pretty big, but it does seem like the most popular one though...
Anyways - thanks again for taking them time - I really appreciate it and have learned something new!
There's XAMPP Lite too you know.

Yes, but from I read it doesn't have Perl...
Looks like the PERL Add-On was incorporated to the main XAMPP program so yeah, you need the main XAMPP. Sorry for the false lead on something slimmer.

this is a great file server, create users to log in with, portable and, download and try,it is great
This is not a webserver, doesn't have a MySQL database, nor Perl. It is, however an awesome piece of software and I carry it everywhere I go just in case.
