Hi community,
I'd like to post an "easy question" to everyone with little experience with portable apps. However, I find it to be very relevant, and this information I cannot find to be explicitly stated here:
Regarding flexibility, can I move my portable apps folder (via explorer)? In what problems do I run if I simply move my apps from one folder to another on my HDD or from my HDD to a USB stick?
Thanks for clarifying!
You can move it from drive to drive, but if you move it to a different folder (e.g. X:\PortableApps to Q:\Portable Applications rather than to Q:\PortableApps) then you may run into trouble. The most notable of these is Songbird; it will fail completely. Others will be damaged internally or lose some settings. So it's a good idea to keep the same directory structure.

I copy PA applications from my drive to all sorts of places. Sometimes I unpack them on desktops, test them and then move them to USB drives. Sometimes I give them to other people just by sending them the folders. I have never had a noticeable problem doing that.

most apps will work fine as you describe, but:
for example I made the experience, when I copy the whole folder of fire fox portable to other place, more then half of the addons is not operational first. Some I had to reinstall, some only kind of refresh, but not all was intact after the copy procedure.
More simple apps will certainly surivive all this perfect.

Are you referring to moving the PortableApps folder, and not the PortableApps\_*_Portable folders, to someplace like the Desktop or My Documents folders? So long as you the high level folder, with everything intact under it, and don't rename it it should work.
Simple way to find out, try it.

I have a structure like this:
As long as I don't move the folders underneath "Apps_Port", I should be able to move the entire directory structure around whereever I want. Actually, I have an additional level of folders but the principle still applies.
