Ant Movie Catalogue

http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog

Ant Movie Catalog is a free (really free, i.e. the source code is available) program made to manage your collection of movies DVD, CD (VideoCD, DivX, ...) and tapes.

If you use GNU/Linux rather than Windows, you can try to use WinE to get this program running; some people notified me that this was working. You can also check Moviefly, which is a complete rewrite of Ant Movie Catalog made with Python.

Features

* User interface translated in about thirty languages: English (default), Bielorussian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian (latin and cyrillic), Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish
* Can store catalog in two file format: its own binary format or XML
* Import information from Internet (using scripts); by default it includes scripts for IMDB (US), DVDFR (FR), Allociné (FR), Culturalia (ES), and lots of others
* User-customizable links to do a search on movie websites
* Information importation from various media files (audio & video codec, bitrates, resolution, framerate, size)
* Scripting technology, using Object Pascal language, allowing to modify catalog: Find & replace, moving field values, ...
* Printing, using customizable templates
* Export to other formats: HTML (based on a template that you can modify or create yourself), SQL commands (to re-import data in a DBMS such as MySQL), CSV (text files, can be used as tables with Microsft Excel for example), Origons.com
* Import from other formats: CSV (Microsoft Excel can create such files, but a plain text file can be used too), Divx Manager, BaseDVDivx, Origons.com, DVD Profiler (catalogs exported to XML)
* Can store pictures inside catalog or link to external files (recommended for large pictures)
* Supports PNG, JPEG and GIF
* Loans management
* Statistics with chart and pies
* Can display the list as a tree, where movies are grouped by a specified field
* This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
* Tested successfuly under Windows 95 & 98 (with some updates), Windows NT4 Workstation (SP4 required), Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Users reported that it works fine in Windows ME and Vista.

I know this app is already

I know this app is already portable. I got the zip file and extracted it directly to my usb, put it in a folder structure like PA uses (App name>App>App Name>) and used PAC to make a shortcut directly to the start up EXE as theres another one for some cover designer.

But anyway, if this could be packaged as a PA app I think it would be better. If nothing else it would probably broaden the market for this app as I had come across it months back but didn't realise it was portable so a lot of other people out there likely have done the same.

Being portable already too should make this pretty easy to package so hope you take it up :o)

Ant Movie Catalogue. My opinion.

Thanks for this post. I used Ant Movie Catalog, but unfortunately its development was dropped and some useful features were still missing. That's why I chose Movienizer. It's a freeware and, besides, I was glad to find out that I could import my Ant Movie Catalog database into it. I didn't lose any data and did't have to create my collection all over again. Besides I find Movienizer more easy to use and navigate.

Three Other Options

I don't think we have Movienizer however there are three other options that I am aware of.

First there's Data Crow Portable which I am currently using. There's an update in the works on the portable version which currently prevents the user from using idmb but I'm sure Chris Morgan (the dev) is working to get it out soon.

Second there's Griffith Portable. I haven't used it but looks good, has positive reviews and most recently updated just 6 days ago.

Lastly there's Personal Video Database. I have used it before and must say I was pretty impressed with it. There's a portable version on the site but not sure how portable it actually is. Still I remember it was good.

I moved to Data Crow as it can catalogue books, software and you can create your own module (media types) for it to log. Any way that gives you a couple choices. Enjoy:)

Movienizer is NOT FREE

FYI: The latest version of Movienizer (3.xx) is NOT free. It is severely limited and requires $40 to work. It should be removed from the list of FREE Portable software immediately.

Movienizer is NOT FREE

I used many movie organizers, and many of them didn't suit me because of their lack of functionality. Yes, Movienizer costs for about $40. But I think that is a quality software and it worth 40 bacs to buy.This program is awesome with a really nice interface.

Movienizer is NOT FREE

That may well be, but the fact remains that Movienizer is being advertised/promoted on these forums as a FREE package when it costs $40. "FREE" = "ZERO". $40 doesn't equal zero. It's not about whether it is worth the $40 (it may be). It's about the fact that a "free" product in October is $40 in December.
