Multiple Portable FireFox Instances

Hi Guys,

I have a thumb drive which I bring to work and I use it for carrying around Portable FireFox. Can I use the same instance of Portable FireFox so that it has two profiles one for when Im in work and one for when Im at home.

Or would it be better to have two distinct instances one for work and one for home but then its a pain in the ass to install all the plugins again etc.

Has anyone any ideas on how long it would take to synch Portable FireFox?

Dave

Extensions

As far as extensions go, try FEBE & CLEO. (Both together here.) They allow you to back up/copy your etensions, bookmarks, etc. (I would suggest disabling them when you are not using them to cut down on writes to your drive. Wink )
This is nice for saving/transfering your profile. Biggrin

You could have two separate

You could have two separate ini files and two separate profile folders. In \FirefoxPortable\, rename \Data\ to \home\, and create another folder called \work\. You can copy the contents of one to the other if you want to start with the same profile contents. Now place FirefoxPortable.ini in \FIrefoxPortable\ if it isn't there already. Edit it to use your home directory, it'll look like this (depends on where the launcher is):
[FirefoxPortable]
FirefoxDirectory=PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\App\firefox
ProfileDirectory=PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\home\profile
PluginsDirectory=PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\home\plugins
UserProfileDirectory=PortableApps\FirefoxPortable\home\userprofile
FirefoxExecutable=firefox.exe
AdditionalParameters=
LocalHomepage=
DisableSplashScreen=false
AllowMultipleInstances=true
SkipChromeFix=true
SkipCompregFix=true
WaitForFirefox=false
RunLocally=false

Now create another text file and call it FirefoxPortable.ini.work, and copy the contents of FirefoxPortable.ini into it, and edit it to point to your work profile. Now when you launch FxP, your home profile will be used. If you want to use your work profile, rename FirefoxPortable.ini to FirefoxPortable.ini.home, and FirefoxPortable.ini.work to FirefoxPortable.ini.

Vintage!
