Scripting?

Sorry, I might have missed this on the Pchat homepage, but does this include xchat's scripting support (python, etc.) or does it use a different, 3rd party plug-in? Or does it just not have support?

To wit, that we are all fools....

Scripting hasn't been

Scripting hasn't been implemented yet. i'm planning on implenting perl support, however, getting python to work is iffy. I'd need a idiots guide to using python on xchat to be able to test. If you care to help with that, i can try to get python to work.

scripting is implimented and

scripting is implimented and still uses XChat's plugin system however stuff like python support etc aren't enabled in the portable version until we can successfully modify the plugins to find Python Portable and Perl Portable.

Woo Zach!

Nice Release but I'm wondering something.
Is there a way to migrate settings from XChat to PChat?

Just go to your xchat

Just go to your xchat settings folder and rename xchat.conf to pchat.conf and move it to the pchat settings folder simple as that.

Not a bug, but...

The icon in the about dialog is kinda fuzzy/low quality.

Also.

I've mentioned it before to you about XChat itself, can you make links clickable? That's annoyed me forever.

Weird bug with window positions

Not sure what's going on here, but the windows keep getting shoved down about 25-50 pixels.
If I maximize the main chat window, then minimize & restore it, it's no longer maximized - the X is good, the width is good, the height is good, but the Y is about 25-50 pixels lower. The other windows (select network to join, for example) have the same problem, although they seem to be pushed down upon being shown, instead of being pushed down when minimized & restored.
I'm on Windows XP Pro SP3; any idea what's up?
I can provide screenshots if you need them.

Thank you!

Weird, I can't seem to

Weird, I can't seem to reproduce now. I'll try a clean PChat and see what happens; maybe it's only a first-run thing.

EDIT: yep, it's a first-run thing. I had no trouble reproducing it on a clean PChat.
Here's the network list on first run: http://i46.tinypic.com/jtvwqo.png

And here's what happens if I maximize PChat, then minimize it, then restore it (incidentally, when I say "restore it", I don't mean restore down - I mean un-minimizing it): http://i45.tinypic.com/15oc9r8.png

The "Reply to comment" window you can see behind PChat is Firefox (actually this thread); Fx is maximized so you can see the difference in the windows' Y coordinates.

Incidentally, is "minimize to tray" supposed to work? I recall you mentioning that most XChat forks couldn't get that working, but I don't recall if you said PChat supports that or not. (I'm asking because I tried it this morning and PChat crashed)

no most third party XChat

no most third party XChat builds or forks for windows has this issue, I suggest using a plugin called xtray which will work in that place, once installed you should disable the built in one, as for window positioning, I'll take a look at that but that seems fairly minor at best, but like I said, I'll take a look

I got XTray and tried it out; it works very well! Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm going to see about finding a couple of other plugins to take care of minor things (nothing you need to worry about, mostly personal touches I like).
Don't worry about the window thing; like I mentioned, it only seems to happen on the first run, so it's really minor. I'm sure you've got more important things to worry about.

Cheers!

Oh, btw.

The P in PChat stood for portable, correct? Then isn't PChat Portable a bit redundant?

Not really

My guess is that, if that's true, it's referring to portability in the sense of being available for several different operating systems. The "Portable" in PChat Portable, however, refers to it being a portable app. So while it sounds redundant, it's not. The English language is funny sometimes, isn't it? Smile

Default server stuff

One pretty large server omitted from PChat's (and XChat's) default list is GameSurge. Granted, it uses authserv instead of nickserv so automatically logging in isn't possible (as far as I know, and this might be why XChat never added it), but if you want:

N=GameSurge
E=IRC (Latin/Unicode Hybrid)
F=27
D=0
S=irc.gamesurge.net
S=irc.us.gamesurge.net
S=irc.eu.gamesurge.net

Mozilla's IRC server:

N=Mozilla
E=IRC (Latin/Unicode Hybrid)
F=27
D=0
S=irc.mozilla.org

And ThunderCity:

N=ThunderCity
E=IRC (Latin/Unicode Hybrid)
F=19
D=0
S=irc.thundercity.net
S=us.thundercity.net
S=eu.thundercity.net

PS: Alphabetize the servers you added since the fork by default, please. Blum

Password encryption.

It'd also probably be a good idea to implement a way to encrypt passwords in the servlist_.conf file.

Winamp plugin + spellcheck

Does PChat really need the Winamp plugin?

Another feature: Spellchecking (ala Pidgin, on the fly)

I just provide the plugins

I just provide the plugins that users may enjoy, if they don't want it they can unload it and spell check right now with most third party forks/compiles of XChat doesn't work properly if at all, I've been trying, it gives me the option to use spell check but it's failing to find the aspell libraries for me so it's disabled for now

Since plugins are in the App

Since plugins are in the App folder, I assume it'll be added again every update? There a way to have it not do that?

in what method? Honestly, I

in what method? Honestly, I agree with the pidgin idea: We don't encrypt so people don't rely on us for good security practices.

Encryption

There are some problems with encryption, the biggest being that yet another app won't be able to be legally downloaded by people in certain countries, but IMHO it's absolutely necessary when you're saving passwords.
If you've got AES-256, Twofish, or Blowfish capabilities, I'd recommend using them to the full.
